'Hard' water areas and soaps

#2
Are there any specific soaps that lather well in hard water areas of the country......or do you just have to work a bit harder to lather up?
I live in a hard water area.

I find TOBS cream (except the sensitive one) to lather best.

In terms of hard soaps, Floris Elite made no lather for about 10 shaves but since then has been my best performing soap.

Razorock soaps also lather well for me.

I tend to bloom my soaps before use these days.

I too live in a hard water area..Have you tried Tabac, it performs wonderfully in hard water...Over the past month or so i've been using "Smart Water"

I've just got 6 bottles from Asda for £2.00...This really works for me I've tried it with MWF, which gave me a superb slick protective lather, with the hard water it was rubbish, i then tried it with other soaps that i've had problems with getting a good lather and it really does work. Give a try, Regards. B:)

I too live in a very hard water area and it caused me a lot of worry when I first started traditional shaving. But I found that practice really does help. A bit of experimentation. I have found that some soaps lather better with a bloomed puck and quite a wet brush while others react better when dry and with a dryish brush. As for MWF, I can lather it, but there are so many better soaps, in my opinion, that I rarely use it now. Again, getting it right with a MWF was just a case of trying different lathering techniques until I found one that worked for me. It’s fun!

I live in Liverpool where the water is generally soft and no issues on lathering but find I have great shaves when I am over at my father's place in East Yorkshire where it is definitely hard. Yet so far I haven't found any cream (sorry not a soap person but presume results are much the same) which lathers differently at one end compared to the other. As said a good soap is a good soap and I could say the same for cream through my experience.

I do find for some inexplicable reason I just seem to get far better shaves with the harder water.

Les2, why waste money on bottled water!! I live in a hard water area, and no problem creating a luxurious lather.. also no problems in keeping razors clean. If anyone thinks you have to mess about with bottled water, it will put them off wet shaving!!

+1

Totally unnecessary. A fraction more elbow grease and soap is all that's required
