Managed to pick up three stunning condition straights for £10 (total) all in need of a hone and strop but other than that all very usable - I'll pop a couple of photos up this evening.

Well the photos aren't great - will try to take some in decent light later in the week.

Any idea who 'Vomra' are? Is that even what it says on the blade? :?

Razor 2: McQueen & Sons Hollow Ground (nearly perfect condition)

Razor 3: Wostenholm I-XL(?)

Not bad for a tenner all in eh?

Not bad at all - the edges all look good and they should restore nicely - if that's your thing! I like the Geo Wostenholme best - "I XL" was just a play on words, meaning "I Excell" - the Bowie knives they made hade this on them too.

Very nice indeed...I am just tipping my toe into the straight world...none obviously have excessive hone wear but what would be considered excessive?

Good find, I could not tell you how well they will restore as guys like Neil have forgotten more than I know about striaghts so I would trust him. But they look good to me especially the second one. Good price as well.

I'd like to restore the Vomra (which incidentally says Germany under the corrosion) as I love the shape - someone has carved their initials into the scales!

Nice razors. I have just restored a razor by Joseph Rodgers & Sons that too had someone’s name carved into the scales I have left it there and not cleaned the razor up to look like new. I also carved my name into the scales and the date but I put inside so no one can see it. The way I thought about it was if the guy came back he would be able to recognise his old razor. The pitting was very bad near the makers name and sanding it back would have removed the name totally. So that sort of made my mind up for me.

There you go as you can see I have done very little to this razor as I wanted to keep it as original as possible. The old user was 4848 K. I had to do some polishing as it was a little bit stained and I wanted to make sure that the rust had gone from the pits. I normaly sand right back to a mirror finish. So this for me is very different. I did a wedge just before this that was hand sanded by a friend in the USA and didnt want to polish that so I left it and put new scales on it. I can say that the wedge is one of the best shaves that I have had with a straight.

It does retain a lot of the character when restored to that degree - often on SRP you see unbelievable restorations, but they don't have the same charm as a well used blade!
