iKon Open-Comb Deluxe Head with black B1 coating on OSS Handle on MASSDROP

Stan I see your still trying to convince yourself that the R2 is redundant ;)

I admit to having put the R2 to the back of my mind, Avnish, especially having enjoyed the Ikon baseplate with the AS-D2 and also the B1 Slant head.

If I were to see an R2 head on BST at a fair price then I imagine I'd get it. Let me know if yoiu see one before I do...which is likely coz I'm always last to the party.

(Am using the Speick hard soap every day at the moment but not finding it significantly better or worse than anything else...so haven't added to the other topic which you started - but admit to using different stuff with it every day - which doesn't add to a helpful conclusion). But continue to find that Bernds brushes are consistently great things to use and am happy with my purchases (your LE Finest included).

I'll be sure to let you know Stan. By the way one thing that is often forgotten and have no idea why as it is useful is how the old Ikons didn't have exposed side tabs. Would I be right in assuming that these new plates are the same?

Not familiar with old ones, but just had a look at the new B1 Slant and the ends of the base plate and top cap are totally flat and flush - noticably so in fact..and the edges aren't rounded off at all so you can see the massive accuracy that they are machined to...they line up with each other 100%. And the ends of the blade sits JUST inside the ends of the head - inset by just a fraction of a millimetre.

Excellent, thanks Stan. Can anyone compare the newer plates to the original straight bar? Or old OCC plate? I have been offered to try these plates (thanks Stan) but am happy to just take it face value, way too much stuff to go through.

Nishy, I don't think the plates have changed from the originals, only the coating is different.

In terms of aggression, I found:

OSS -the mildest, almost as mild as the Feather AS-D2, but more efficient. I couldn't really tell the difference between the OC and SB sides.

OC - my favourite, just the right level of aggression. Very smooth and efficient. Think of an open comb EJ89.

SB - the most aggressive plate. Perfect for 3-4 days growth, but not something I could use every day.

I have the iKon B1 OC with the matching Bulldog II handle, the head is the same as my older matt silver one apart from the colour. Covered blade tabs and a very smooth and efficient shave. It is also very, very black. It's like, how much more black could this be? And the answer is none, none more black.

One more buyer required to seal the deal ay Mass drop, with four days left to go.

Had a look at Bullgoose. The very same thing (with OSS handle) is $150 (£102) including postage but excluding any VAT/RM fees that may or may not apply. (There might be a Bullgoose discount??)

So it's pretty black then? :)

The B1 head would be the same as the iKon baseplate & Feather top cap you have now.

Best regards, Paul

Thanks, Paul.

I rather thought (and hoped) the baseplate would be the same. If you'd had other DLC Open Comb basepates in stock at Connaught I would undoubtedly have bought one more as a spare. I wasn't sure about the top caps being the same but am pleased to hear that because the combination works so well for me and I'm happy to have a spare top cap too. And on top of that it comes with an OSS handle which, considering the price on MD, isn't bad. If I get hit for charges on top of the £65 then I'll have to grin and bear it.

It reached the required level today on MD so it looks like it'll complete.

Thanks.
