Injector Blades

I dug my two injectors back out of "hibernation" yesterday and used them today. Trouble is, I could not remember what blades I had loaded in them. I loaded a new Personna into my Type G 1 and left the Type I 2 blade alone. A note about the Personna blades is in order. I bought the 20 blade Mini Hair Shaper blades pkg. and them load them one at a time into an old Schick "magazine". In the G 1 this new Personna blade is certainly sharp and I got one little nick on my chin as it is scarred from where it was busted open eons ago. It was then that I recalled that the G 1 requires a smoother (less sharp) blade. If I recall a modern "Chick" blade worked well in it in the past. A friend gifted me that one blade.

If anything I have proven that I need to be more diligent in marking down what blade is in which razor. I am going to load both these up with some NOS Schick blades to see which is best for which. I have a mag of both Schick Super Chromium & Plus Platinum. Time to get serious.

FWIW, of all the Internet threads I have perused about injector blades this one is easily one of the most informative.

Well, I loaded up the Type I 2 Hydromatic with a new Personna mini-shaper blade and Boy Howdy!!! Sweet spot found!! Sharp & smooth!! While being a bit too much for my G model, it sang like a lark in the I 2 which is a tad milder. I may just hang up the G 1 as I can buy the Personna mini-shaper blades locally, $6.00 (4.85 GBP) approx. for 20 out the door. They are really not that hard to load in a correct "magazine" once you get the hang of it.

I have Always Said a Personna Blade is a Nice Blade in a Later Milder Injector..:)

OK, a buddy traded me a mag of Chinese "Chick" blades recently for another "go round" and I loaded one up in the G 1, but as well I also used the I 2 for a SxS comparison. In the latter was a once used Personna "mini hair shaper" blade. I alternated strokes and areas with the two and in the end it was close. Damn close to be honest, but I would rate the I 2 with the modern Personna a tad better overall, BUT, and it's a big but, it was a very close run race and I can only add that the "Chick" blades just really hammer the "sweet spot" on the G 1. They tame the aggression that the modern Personna blade has in that particular injector. I think that if a person follows that formula they will be happy. Of course, YMMV.

In conclusion, I have to be honest and admit that in the end the Schick injector type razor is a better "moustrap" than the DE. They shave better overall & are far more nimble in the hand when coupled with the right blade and handled correctly. It's too bad that Gillette today doesn't make a "tribute" run of these using their best modern blade technology.

P.S. Someone will probably have to sedate Fergiebilly over this admission. ;)

Well Said..The Pinnacle of Razor Blades was Actually in the 1970s..Injector Blades in Particular..Gillette Injector Blades were Never Top Notch Either Compared to Some of the Later Schick Blades..The Gillette Twins were Way Under Par in Particular..:D:D

Those sold by Connaught are the exact same blade. ;)

I buy the keyed Personna from Connaught, and they're not too bad. I understand the hair shapers don't have a keyed dispenser, and have to be loaded by hand into one which does.

If they're the same blade, I'm a bit puzzled that a non-keyed dispenser of 20 blades, as listed for sale in or via the USA, is so much cheaper. I'd certainly be willing to reload them, but that in fact would be unnecessary anyway if I were just using them in my Single Edge, where the blade can be manually loaded.

I'm beginning to think that the only way to get the Hair Shapers in the UK is to buy them from the States, but that of course removes any economy by the high shipping cost.
