Italian Barber Intros Tech Clone

#2
The last modern Tech clone I bought was the Shavecraft 104 head, which turned out to be aggressive to the point of being unusable. My real Gillette Techs seem to be nothing like the new ones, apart from the name, similar looks, and using DE blades.

Ferrum, the Lord "Tech" clone is more aggressive as well and not quite as smooth. Since Italian Barber is in Canada we can hope that maybe they will duplicate the specs of the original Gillette pre-war Canadian Tech which is IMO the best of all the Tech models as it is in the "Goldilocks zone" for aggression.

Last time I ordered from them I was unhappy with their service. It was at Christmas time and I haven't ordered from them again. You may want to ask concerning shipping if it's not within Canada.

In all fairness as regards total disclosure perhaps you should share all the story. Was it their fault or that of the shipping carrier? Xmas time shipping is always fraught with hazards. Their website gives you the shipping costs before pulling the trigger on the order. Obviously, they can't be held responsible for some other country's taxation/tariffs as well.

Latest was a Secret Santa gift for a forum member. Don't have the specific dates but time from purchasing to UK Delivery was >30 days. Contacted them 3-4-5 times. Replies were curt and unassuming.
Previous time they said that trucks were being held at the Boarder and that land mail was checked closer than Air.
Try for yourself and report back as to your satisfaction.

I have ordered from them, but I am in the USA and for USA orders they ship out of their Niagra, NY annex so normal shipping times, i.e., 4 - 6 days. It sounds like your beef should be with Canadian Customs and not the co.

I have to say I had a problem with my first purchase from Italian Barber. My item was lost in the post. I was told I couldn't be compensated because USPS (It was shipped from the U.S) stated it was delivered in Norway and the Norwegian postal service said it was the sender's responsibility to trace the item.

Can't say it was Italian Barbers fault, maybe more like the shipping carrier..but they didn't seem to be particularly bothered in following up my case...I really had to push them, still thought I would mention it. I have ordered from U.S before MANY times and never had a item go missing.

International shipping is unfortunately fraught with more risk as it often involves two different carriers, often different languages and two different computing systems that obviously don't interface. Years ago when I was in Latin America it was commonly accepted that 50% of mail would be robbed!! I found that incredible to comprehend initially, but such is the Third World mentality. Civil servants were so poorly paid that it was just accepted that they would do this to "supplement" their income.

Yeah you do make a valid point..I guess it's just disconcerting when you have international tracking to prevent such occurrences, but in the end this is futile anyway.
I guess it was just annoying that Italian Barber didn't appear to be concerned. When you compare that to the customer service of of TOBS who (at cost to them) sent me free of charge replacement items that were damaged in transit plus some extras for my inconvenience and excellent correspondence and politeness..it makes you realise how customer service can really influence your opinions with certain companies.

I think you are misunderstanding that there is NO interface between two different carriers from different countries. There is merely a "handoff" from the initial carrier to the second one. At least that is how it has been explained to me. Once it leaves the country of purchase the tracking is essentially worthless. They may have stated to you that they would look into it, but in reality there is little they can do. In order to get "cradle to grave" tracking you would have to use one carrier for the entire transit, e.g., FedEx, UPS, etc., and their cost for international shipping can be prohibitively exorbitant.

I understand what you are saying of course..and you seem a little defensive..have you got my package! Haha just kidding:D:D
I am sure you are correct in what you say, I just wondered how those other companies manage to do it ..as I have ordered from many other International locations and never had a problem..things are tracked and they arrive. I guess I have been extremely lucky perhaps... because these companies have used more than one carrier.
As I mentioned I am not blaming Italian Barber for this..but I was just disappointed in their handling of the situation that's all.
