New semogue special edition 2012

Hi Teiste, this will be the first Boar Badger mix brush I've owned, but going on the few test lathers I've done with the brush and listening how these type of brushes soften up I'm very impressed with the early performance, but I also know how comprehensive your brush reviews are, so I wait with interest for your final findings.

I received mine after it had been waiting for me at my office for over a week. Afyer cleaning it and making a testlather, I used it this morning. Still smelling quite funky, it already did an admirable job. There's still some scritch, but I expect it to soften up in a couple of shaves, just like my Caravela did when new.

Last night I lathered some Arko and I let the lather on the brush overnight. This morning most of the funk was gone. Glad that Arko stick was useful again as I never use the foul stuff for shaving :icon_cheesygrin:
This morning the brush performed better than yesterday and it's starting to bloom.

I test-lathered and soaked mine to break it in and get rid of the funk, and have now shaved with it thrice. Truly a wonderful brush--dense and scrubby (but not too scratchy) with good flow-through.
This is a keeper for me!

And it's only getting better! After two weeks it's really soft with lots of backbone. It's not the same as the Caravela, that knot is a bit firmer in my experience.

And it's only getting better! I've been using it exclusively for about two weeks and I really like it. It's a bit softer than the Caravela, with just a bit less backbone than the Caravela. I didn't like the handle much from the first pictures I saw, but in real life it's a great handle. Both in looks and ergonomics.

I understand this an 'SE' (Special Edition), rather than a 'LE' (Limited Edition). Would it therefore be safe to assume that its production will be ongoing, and that it will be available in the future, even if present stocks run out?

Does not 'Special Edition' simply mean a larger 'Limited Edition'?

I'm still waiting for mine and already have boar brushes lined up waiting to be broken in - though the line is not as long as my line of schooners warming up in my first Aussie pub! I was in Australia before the majority of Australians were!

Sodding enablers!

It's a lovely brush, Carl. You won't regret it, just remember it needs a breaking in period.

Wash lathered it twice and face lathered with it twice. It reminds me of a new Manchurian brush that also needs breaking in - not quite as much backbone and not quite such soft tips, but definately similar - except a fraction of the cost, of course.

Another good enablement!

As did the Portugal Online Shop with 10% discount for The Shave Nook members

Yes, ordered my backup from Miguel :) For those outside the EU, he can waive VAT if you email him (there's no way to do it automatically on the website)

500 of these were made. No plans to produce more that I am aware of, but they would be foolish not to have a brush like this in their regular arsenal. I suspect they might introduce a "regular" SOC version with this knot at some point.

Yes, plus they are not numbered...
