Active Pass Around: Fatboy

I've had this razor for over a month now and it's time to pass it on before I get too attached to it.:D
Final verdict: what a great shaver! Every shave was a joy. I can now see why the Fatboy has such a good reputation. I encourage anyone to jump at the opportunity and get on the list. If I wasn't on a self imposed spending hiatus, I'd be hunting for one right now.
The razor is clean, barbicided and ready to move on. Goodbye little fella. Sob. :(

Hiya,

Guess a new list makes sense, starting with:

riverrun........is done
Stacy555.......done
Big G (if he doesn't blow out for some reason)
Kevy

Ok, all set to go Stacy's way and thanks Andreas for taking care of her adorable self. Glad to see that one getting around again.

OK then Martin, I guess I best try this beauty out before I pop me clogs. Not that I'm about to but at this rate....

Andreas' comments regarding it being much better than his '64 Slim have my interest piqued. I too had a '64 Slim once upon a time and a darn good shave it was. S'pose I just gotta tick that Fatboy box if you'll have me. I promise I won't go off reservation 'til I's posted it on to the next dude. I hope I hate it 'cos if I don't the Fatboy will just have to buy a Fatboy!

Please?

I don't want to diss the '64 Slim prematurely. Mine gives a decent, but not great shave and my theory is that it needs TLC. The doors don't open symmetrically and it looks a bit knackered. I might have to give it the Hippo treatment and reevaluate. But by all means give the Fatboy a go. It is fun to use. I won't buy one though. While it is a great little machine, I have several razors that are just as good and I have stopped spending any money on shaving almost two months ago. So even the Hippo treatment will have to wait. That reminds me - I have an allegedly shave ready Rolls razor I haven't used yet.... Too scared...

Och, I had a go with my Rolls yonks ago and it probably wasn't shave ready but hey, in for a penny, throw the fiver away, that's me. I emerged bloodless save a few small weepers but it was a poor shave. Probably due to the blade not being properly shave ready and the fact that it was my first (and only time). Can't be arsed revisiting it or getting the blade properly honed...

Allegedly my blade has been properly honed. I'll find out soon. You check out out that Fatboy, mate ;)

Well it's about damn time you came around and got that test drive put on your schedule. I will hold you to sticking around and writing your thoughts after a few shaves and see what happens next.

I sincerely hope it's a magical experience that enables the crap outta you.

Well....... where do I start ?

Prep was a shower and a fash wash with Pears, followed by a little hot flannel treatment, (pretty much my adopted routine for now),
for Lather I used the only brush I own so far, the Semogue 1460 Boar, I pinched off a section of a Shannon's BPG ? (no idea ) sample into my bowl and got to work, really impressed with this soap, felt good and silky on the skin.

Loaded the Fatboy with a Voskhod on setting 4 and began my best shave yet,
first thought that passed through my head was, "How old is this razor" with a tone of disbelief,50's-60's ?, first pass WTG was very very smooth, no doubt in my mind best I've felt or achieved to date, (very short time in all honesty), second pass was easy and relaxed as I got used to a shorter handle than I've become used to, then came the time for a decision, full 3rd pass or clean up ?, against probably most people reading this better judgement, not only did I go full 3 passes, I also took the dial up to 6, surprisingly for me at least all the damage done was one small nick in my usual place (left side of Adam), finished off as always with my Alum and then a splash of witch hazel, very little sting from the Alum and nick was indeed tiny.

All I can say to finish is even (yes I know I keep saying it) in my very inexperienced hands, this is a classic for a reason, a must have in your'e collection, and I for one will be adding this to my next birthday list, as my Xmas one is full.

PS. anyone care to answer what year this one was made, my eyes are not good enough to see any year ID, (Better go to .... ).

Glad you liked it. That Fatboy is a little gem. I enjoyed it a lot. Given your age you might be able to get a birth year razor, made in the same quarter or year you were born. They were made from 1958 I believe... If you're earlier you need to get a Gillette Toggle and a mortgage...
