Polished 6S

A couple of months ago I watched a Razor Emporium video where they had plated a Rockwell razor with precious metal “to make it smoother “

I thought about having a go on the cheap and did a quick search but couldn't find any information. Having very limited mobility after a leg operation gave me plenty of sofa time but actually it only took a couple of hours tops and I could have done it quicker than that but wanted to make sure each stage was perfect before moving on.

I still don't really know why I did it as I don't think my 6S (favourite razor) wasn't smooth anyway?

Basically I've polished the surfaces that contact your face during a shave using Micro-Mesh (very posh wet and dry type cloth backed abrasive)

I went from 1500 up to 6000 grit and am very pleased with the results.

I did the very edge of the top cap (I may do the whole cap at some point?) and the angled facets of the bottom plate. I just did the 2&4 plate as (that's) my most used one.

It's hard to photograph with my phone but in real life it catches the light beautifully.

When I first used it afterwards I thought it made it more aggressive but that could have just been physcosomatic?

I can't tell if it gives a smoother shave either but I like the way it looks

Remember that even the lightest of polishing is removing material, albeit in small increments. Many think that because a little polish is good that a lot must be better. That is fine, unless you are dealing with something that entirely depends upon precise fitting whereas you must be ultra careful. It's possible you increased the blade gap by a smidgen.

Quite possibly?

It felt more aggressive afterwards but doesn't anymore, perhaps I just got used to the difference?

Or maybe you felt that because even a fine grit can leave micro dents in the metal. I mean an analogy to straight razors, where you take a few laps in a strop to smooth the blade. And that may be what happened after a few shaves, you have "stropped" your razor, making the surface even and smooth.

It's just my theory.
