I watched the imitation game on Sunday night on 4, absolutely cracking film, all about Alan Turing and his cracking of the enigma code during the second world war, I would watch again, Benedict Cumberbatch was perfect for the role.

High-rise (2016)
A movie I rather wanted to like. A bit of a clock work orange feel to it but sadly it never came together for me.
I was bored out of my mind about 30-40 minutes into it.
Maybe the rest of the movie after that was great but I'll never know.

A 3/10.

I just watched 'High-Rise'. You missed a Gillette Fatboy or Slim about 55 minutes in. The main character briefly shaves dry and cuts himself.
I think they were aiming for Clockwork Orange meets Peter Greenaway. Utter nonsense. The high-rise floor equals social position metaphor would have been enough for a 10 minute short film at most. Avoid.
Talking about high-rise buildings, I also watched 'The Horror of The Dolls'. Not a good movie either, but it was filmed at ↪Balfron Tower in London, a building I have been to on Open House weekend, so I ignored the plot and concentrated on architectural details :p
Quite happy to say I paid for neither of the movies.

Watched Jason Bourne on Tuesday night.
OK film. I wouldn't recommend anyone rush out to the cinema to see it. I loved the first three films.
Very much a 'film by numbers'. Just seemed to be trying to tick as many boxes as possible, apart from a decent scrip and storyline.
The chase at the end was ridiculous, in a good way though.

Can't even get passed the first 30 mins of the first film without switching off

Greetings

I too watched the new Bourne movie last week and came to very much the same conclusions as Blackmass ie the Bourne movies have now been ,done to death and arguably this was one just too far. It is only possible to wring so much mileage from what has proved a very popular idea and this was for me the end. The movie ended in a way blatantly aimed at yet another follow up but I hope they call time on it now.

Regards
Dick.

I just saw The Lobster on DVD. Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and starring Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz, it is the most bizarre film I have seen in many years. It had a 90% positive rating by critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but to me it was absolute rubbish. I laughed out loud a few times at its sheer strangeness, but otherwise I was completely uninvolved by any of the characters or the plot (what little of it that there was). The RT site says, "...For viewers with the fortitude to crack through Yorgos Lanthimos' offbeat sensibilities, it should prove a savory cinematic treat." Sorry, but I guess I lack the fortitude.

Just a quick heads up. The Duke of Burgundy is on Channel Four tonight/tomorrow morning at 12:40am.
Great film, stunning looking with a stunning sound track. Oh and it stars Sidse Babett Knudsen, swoon (Borgen). Well worth a watch.

On DVD, the Danish comedy (in a Danish comedy kind of way) 'Men and Chickens'. Wonderful, quirky, weird and funny (in a Danish comedy kind of way). Want to watch something 'different'? Then this would be a good choice. I just love the Danish approach to film making and the strange edge they elude. Nymphomaniac (Danish producer), The Idiots, Babette's Feast, Let the right one in, etc etc etc

The Monuments Men
Pretty boring to say the truth. They could have made a much more interesting film from that subject, it's like a succession of anecdotes; the good Americans, with the useless French and the spiritual Brit, against the bad nazis and the little less bad soviets.

Jason Bourne
What more to say. Jason Bourne is the man! Bourne beats Bond anytime...

The Neon Demon
Very bizarre, as always with Winding Refn. A eighties film made nowadays.

It is indeed a weird film
