Recommend a DSLR please

We've bought a Nikon D3300 & kit lens (18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II) as a joint Christmas present to each other. Just north of £300, which included bag, spare Nikon battery, SanDisk Extreme card, filter, and a lens cleaner pen thingy - although I still need to apply for £20 off. We probably would have had better value had we bought a second-hand-but-better-spec body but this one felt right. If we take to it, I should think that we'll be outgrowing the lens long before the camera itself.

For what it's worth, I'm a big Fuji fan, especially of the X100T, which is NOT a DSLR.
I am, however, thinking of replacing my old mirrorless Panasonic GF2, and I think I might buy a Fuji X-T1 compact system camera. They also have a newer, lower spec. model called the X-T10. The cameras are superb build, well-featured, and the optics are first-class.
The downside is that they are quite expensive, with a lens, but if you're not someone who is always wanting to upgrade, and wants a pro-level camera, it may be worth it.
