SOTD 19 February 2019

Pre-shave: Warm shower, Kiehl's Ultra Face Cleanser, followed by cold water splash.
Soap: Martin de Candre Fougere.
Brush: Shavemac ' The Flat Top' Slivertip.
Bowl: Giles Shaving Co - Spotty Pedstal.
Razor: Rex Ambassador (1.5).
Blade: Astra SP (1).
Post: Cold water, Floid Vigoroso , followed by Ibiza Aloe - Aloe Vera Gel.

Having read some reviews recently that the Rex Ambassador works well dialled at 2 - 1.5, I decided to put those recommendations in to practise.

A 2 pass shave - WTG and XTG face with WTG and ATG, with a DFS+ finish with no issues.

A good splash of Floid V, with a very plesant post shave tingle, told me that this was a very good shave.

I need ot check back on SOTDs, from memory my previous shaves with the Rex were in the 5-4 and down to 3 - 2 ball park. At 1.5 I had a very smooth and efficient shave.

All the best,

Chris

Results? - you have no idea how good those shaves were for me -

Joy unbounded! The heavenly host - and the choir angelic - descend - an orchestra staffed entirely by nubile Nubians deliver 'Ode to Joy' in the way Beethoven intended. Cherubim flutter - hither and thither - with trays of drinks - so - you get the idea - good shaves all. Finally my damaged thumb is sort of back to normal - this is a good thing - a second good thing was picking up a Colonial aluminium single edge head on bst - I appreciate that I'm kind of late to the party with this razor - it seemed to be very well regarded - knowing why now. For me - effortlessly good - first use was on an eight day growth - no problem at all. Interestingly - the head wont screw onto my Rockwell handle - the threading isn't deep enough. The General will be a keeper for me - even after only a few uses - I know this is a razor that suits me. Consider me impressed.

All good - it is nice to get your shaving mojo back - enjoy yours one and all - yours - I.

Thanks to @Wayne Pritchard for a seamless 're-homing' of his General.

Good news with the thumb; +1 on the General Alu - an exceptional razor!

I had another "Oldie" Shave today, having shaved with a C1 yesterday and come away unscathed with no post shave problems. I used the older B1 which IMHO shaves better than the C1.
Ensuring that I took care and did not rush things, I found the initial clearance passes quite harsh but then became smoother. The quality of the overall Shave [ missed bits round tip of chin] was not only better than yesterday, but much better than those that I get with more modern Injectors. Shaving with one of these "Oldies" is a real Shaving experience, compared to the easy ride with some Injectors.

Well third time is the charm so I reached for another Merkur and this time the 37C slant came to hand. I have been on a run of modern razors as opposed to my vintage Gillette choices and quite enjoying them. The slant is an exceptional shaver and though I also have a 39C, I enjoy the weight and balance of the 37C more. Started with the Proraso pre-shave and lathered up with the TFS Corte Sabauda with the matching AS. Fantastic 3 pass shave!!

Rating: 5 / 5

Prep: Bulldog Sensitive face wash, warm water & face cloth
Bowl: Executive Shaving handmade
Brush: Muhle STF
Cream: Castle Forbes Lime
Razor: Razorock Game Changer 0.68 on ATT Colossus handle
Blade: Voskhod
Post: Warm then cold water rinse, Castle Forbes Lime ASB

Nice 3 pass DFS, W/W/X, minor touchup & ATG above jawline only. In fact one of my very best DE shaves to date. Getting good results from Voskhod & Rapira Swedish supersteel blades despite not liking them at all when used in open comb razor. Maybe these ‘medium sharp' blades really suit this razor for me. The ATT Colossus is an absolute beast of a handle, in a good way.
