SOTD: Saturday 16th - Friday 22th March 2019

Vintage blade porn.

Sotd - today - Saturday the 16th of March.

Razor - Merkur 37 slant
blade - Gillette Silver Blue (3)
brush - Semogue 1305
soap - Vitos Eucalyptus - tallow & lanolin
post - witch hazel
a/s - Epsilon Blue
balm - none needed
scent - ADP Mirto de Panarea.

Result - superb.

A dark morning in Glasgow - brightened up by the shave - happily - the mail came before I went upstairs - new things to try! Excellent. First use of a Vitos soap - I have long wondered about them - they have their fans here - and with reason - I now know. Ordinarily - off-putting for me - they come in unhelpfully large quantities - mostly in 500 and 1000 ml/gram versions - more soap than you are going to need ever - step forward Connaught Shaving - they repackage the croaps into handy - stackable - plastic tubs - 100 ml a go. Perfect - cheap as chips. So did the Vitos work for me? Absolutely - boar brush - it is the law - isn't it - with this type of soap? - ridiculously easy to lather - thick and creamy and shiny with no effort. I'm using soft water and face lather. The eucalyptus scent is there - but isn't at all prominent. Fair enough - you don't want to be kicking uninvited koalas out the den - do you? No balm needed - using the Vitos - that's high praise in my book. First use of Epsilon Blue aftershave - I like this a lot. So - another Vitos to try soon - Supercrema - and two incoming PAA soaps - my first - from them. Great shaving and saving money at the same time - what's not to like? - ha ha ha. Sealed the deal with the ADP Mirto de Panarea - a splash of warm Mediterranean light in scent form. All good - enjoy your shaves one and all - yours - I.

Simple Saturday SOTD – a sharp blade, a nice brush and a super cream

Many of the reviews I have done over the time since I started wet shaving have been of high end soaps and creams. That's just the way it tends to be – I mean why not show off your best right? A lot of us forget that out there in the wet shaving wild there are dozens if not hundreds of everyday soaps and creams that are priced from less than a dollar to the mid twenties and all points in between. One such soap I used today – Musgo Real.

Now Musgo Real is, in my opinion, worthy of a place in everyone's shave chit. Mugso Real is a light very pale green cream soap from Portugal – you can find it HERE.

The fragrance is what I can only describe as manly, barbershop, masculine and just nice. Soapy – yes. The fragrance notes on their website simply says “Woody and Oriental” but to me it is much more complex than that – yes those notes are there and can be detected but that is behind the soapy smell – the soapy smell of a laundry day with your Mum, the scent of a freshly dried cotton bed sheet that has been washed by that same Mum and then dried in the glowing sunlight of a summers day – y'getting it?

From the website:

“Musgo Real was first launched in the 1930s, and it remains a classic, found in Portuguese houses over several generations.

The brand retains its masculine aesthetic, while the products, offered in four different fragrances, have kept their rich formula.

Each of its lines are blended with lanolin, glycerin, shea butter and walnut oil to ensure a moisturizing, yet close shave. The range includes soaps, shaving cream or soap, aftershave, pre-shave oil and colognes.”

Luxury masculine aesthetic products with vintage inspiration!!

The rest of my stuff for today was:

  • Merkur Futur
  • Feather Blade on shave #1
  • Van Yulay black resin bowl
  • Future Chubby Prototype in black with a 28mm silver tip badger
Musgo Performance

I squeezed out a teaspoon full of the cream into my bowl. The badger knot had been soaking for ten minutes whilst I showered so I started lathering up. Take a look at the results – click on a photo for a closer look! This is after less than 2 minutes twirling…

I completed a three pass with plenty of lather to spare.I cut my nose, just I was feeling smug the Feather cut me. Styptic.

What can I say, if you don't have Musgo then you NEED to buy some. My tube has a darker green colour and the current tube colour is a lighter shade but it is the same great soap.

And for those that like photos – here are the rest of the photos from today's shave

Shaving recipe for today.

Prep: Hot shower:/ L'OREAL ~ Mountain Water Shower Gel.

Pre:

warm wet flannel to my face.

Pears ~ Transparent Soap.

Brush: Omega 10048.

Bowl Lather.

Uber/Superlather: Williams Mug Shaving Soap / 3P Croap (Sample) + 6 Drops of Glycerin.

Blade: Dorco Prime Platinum.(2)

Razor: Baili BD191.

Warm wet flannel/ cold wet flannel to rinse my face.

Post:

Cold Water Face Rinse./Homemade Menthol Crystals +Eucalyptus peppermint,+ Tea Tree Oil Witch Hazel Mixture./ Brut ~ ASL + Splash-on Lotion.

Aloe Vera Gel.

Greetings,

Another Williams Uber/Superlather sunday morning shave.

After soaking the williams mug soap for 5 minutes in hot tap water, then loaded up my damp Omega 10048 'not wet' until i had a good amount soap on the brush, the omega boars are great for both bowl & face lathering, the 10048 & it's sibling the 10049 can really hold some lather!.. next i added 2 almond size scoops of the 3P Croap Sample to the mixing bowl + 6 drops of glycerin & a few drops of water then started to mix up the lather adding more water when required to get the superlather to the consistancy i like after a minute or so , i was rewarded with a absolutely superb protective slick lather, without it drying out on my face inbetween each pass, which personally isn't a great concern to me, if and when it does because with most of my shaves i always use a post-shave balm ,conditioner or aloe vera gel.

The Superlather it'self was very like 'Cella' consistancy with a good post shave feeling to my face.Another successful Uber/superlather creation.

The Dorco Prime Platinum blade was a excellent match with the Baili BD 191 razor, mowing through my stubble with smooth efficiency..The baili razor is another razor i've hardly gave any attention to, but since my ruthless den clean out last year it'll be making more frequent appearances in my SOTD set ups.

A comfortable Saint Patrick's Day Sunday morning 3 pass + pick ups near bbs shave with no errors to report.

Finishing the shave off with a generous dollop of Creightons ~ Sensitive Post Shave Balm.

My face is feeling smooth & smelling old school devine.;)
;)

Enjoy your sunday, ladies & gentlemen.

A super smooth Sunday morning shave. The Feather razor makes the Feather blade feel so smooth and the shave is effortless. Wonderful scents and smooth face today.

Sunday March 17th

Eurfros Badass
Saponificio Varesino 2.0 Cocobolo

Gillette Super Silver
Pitralon Classic

All stellar products in my shave today, but the soap was the star of the show. Superb post-shave performance. Enjoy your Sunday gents.

The PILS is on my wishlist. Are there any UK stockists?

soap: Super-Max, adding some Valobra stick for a more interesting scent worked really well

brush: Zenith Synt Dark, good for bowl lathering but not for the mash it, mash it good face lathering crowd

razor: Heljestrand 23, with scales in stainless steel and a quarter hollow blade this is a truck of a razor, heavy, steady, no messing around just mow those whiskers but watch out when stropping because the draw is much more prominent compared to a thin full hollow blade

balm: Speick, initially not a fan of scent but result of balm was impressive so kept it and 1. I got used to scent and 2. scent toned down so now I am enjoying it as an old school barbershop scent
