SOTD : Saturday 25th August - Friday 31st August 2018

Thur 30th Aug
Vintage v Modern, 50/50 Shave

RazoRock Plissoft 24mm
P & B Pall Mall
A. RHS Ever Ready Streamline & Gem S/S ( 2 )
B. LHS ATT SE-G modified & Gem ( 2 )
Floid Vigoroso A/S Lotion

I chose to use the Streamline on my more difficult RHS side of face, as I am more used to it. The Shave was much smoother than the first use, as the edge taken off the blade. The shave with the SE-G was also nice, perhaps easier on the Chin than the Streamline. Overall the quality of finish on both side was excellent, and no mishaps occurred with either Razor. Most likely will reverse the roles of the Razors tomorrow while the blades are in prime condition.

Tatara + Polsilver SI
APR Velours Noir & A/S
YaQi ‘Space' Badger

Great final (or perhaps penultimate) shave with the OC Tatara, loaded with a new Polsilver SI. It was smooth and simple as you like, though I think this razor favours shaper blades personally. I found the Nacet to be a hair better than the Polsilver, though both were smooth and gave great shaves. Nice alcohol burn and subsequent menthol chill with the aftershave. Bam!

Pre: Warm water face wash
Brush: S_J Zebrano 24mm ST
Cream: TOBS No.50 (sample)
Razor: Gem MMFW
Blade: Gem Stainless PTFE
Post: Warm then cold water rinse, Floid Mentolado Vigoroso ASL
IMG_20180830_123916.jpg

Thanks @Nishy for the TOBS cream.
Not a bad shave, but the scent isn't really for me and although I didn't find it drying, the post shave is nonexistent.
Not one I'll be buying.
Thanks again.

Prep:
Valobra Glycerlanolina soap, Myrsol Emulsion
Brush: Saponificio Varesino Two-band High Mountain Manchurian White Badger
Soap: Declaration Grooming Bon Vivant
Razor: Merkur Futur (2)
Blade: Vintage NOS Personna Super Platinum Chrome (16)
Post: Thayers Cucumber Witch Hazel / Myrsol Emulsion
Scent: Knize Ten EdT

Great shave. Very rich, slick lather from the Declaration soap, which had a pleasant earthy masculine scent. Three passes and a few buffs for a BBS result, with a very nice post-shave. The vintage Personna blade has been brilliant. I detected some slight resistance for the first time in the ATG pass of this shave, and hence will allow this blade to retire gracefully after 16 stellar shaves.

Prep: Warm rinse followed by Nivea Sensitive Face Wash then Nuage shave oil
Soap: Proraso Red Sandalwood
Brush: Executive Shaving Medium Jock synthetic
Razor: Merkur 34c
Blade: Rapira (4)
Post: Cold rinse, Thayers Witch Hazel with Cucumber, Boots Freshwood Aftershave then @BartsBalm Amber and Moroccan Jasmine balm.

I wasn't actually sure whether or not I wanted to shave tonight, however I wanted some chill out time.

I had a look around my small but gradually increasing den and introduced the Nuage oil back into my prep. Straightforward.

Having bought the Proraso Red Sandalwood soap as part of a triple buy, tonight was its first run out. It performed as all Proraso products have and whipped up into a nice lather in no time. Working it into my face was soothing with the Sandalwood scent very light.

As I started my first pass my skin was really tight and dry after each stroke. I'm guessing the Nuage oil was as expected for 99p however the first stroke was faultless each time.

A rinse after my first pass and I was pleasantly surprised. Most of the stubble was gone though another pass was needed.

2nd pass XTG was the same experience. Very dry after each stroke but my face was BBS when I finished.

I changed my 3rd pass to just pick ups with my neck BBS after a little bit of buffing.

My usual post routine with a cold rinse, splash of Thayers, splash of Boots Freshwood Aftershave then 2 squirts if Barts Balm Amber and Moroccan Jasmine.

A joy to shave tonight and I'm so glad I talked myself into it.

Have a good one folks (the weekend is almost here!) [emoji482]

Welcome to this evenings main event and the elimination bout for the heavyweight razor championship of the bathroom, 'The 'Hawk vs The General'

In the blue corner

Razorock Hawk V2 - DIY brass handle - Kai Captain
Weighing in at 95g and with a reach of 122mm the Hawk comes in to the ring with a record of 3/0

In the red corner

Colonial General - Standard handle - Kai Captain
Weighing in at a heavier 105g, with a reach of 93mm the general enters this fight with a tale of the tape of 2/0

Your referee for this match is Mr Muhle Synthetic (wearing butterscotch coloured trousers) and your ringside commentator OSP Chypre, Cuts man courtesy of Superdrug Mr Murray the styptic pencil and your official timekeeper Tissot PRC200.

Your ring girl for this evening is some ugly pink teddy (?) I found in my dad'place. God bless my mother but she did have some odd tastes. Two of these being my father and me.

These two razors have entered my shaving world with quite some impact and both have impressed me with their ability and results. Knock out performances. So this evening I decided I would take them (razor) head to (razor) head to see which actually delivers the best shave. In consideration of the cost differences it is probably a bit unfair, but one does need some fun in life and as we all know more cost doesn't necessitate better results.

In my case I always find the left side of my face easier to shave than the right and so it would be unfair to use one for one side and the other for the other so it was all a bit of a mix, match and change as I went along. Marks being awarded for performance, style and results.

'Let's get ready to razor'

Round one - Left side and neck

The Hawk with its chiselled good looks and longer reach makes a very positive start with great handle work and a slick performance. The General with its stocky physical build is more of a work horse and takes a little longer but it grinds away battling its way through the bristles. The strokes from both fighters are delivered with wonderful accuracy, Both razors giving a sterling performance with excellent jabs and XTG's the round ends in a very close call. Draw.

'Get that girl out the ring' jeers the crowd

Round two - Right side and neck

Both start with a flurry of WTG's and both handle the pressure with aplomb and ride through the two days of growth efficiently. This is tight and neither struggle with the XTG's, but wait..........Faced with ATG's the Hawk shows some signs of struggling while the General continues with a smooth performance. The referee has to have words with the Hawk for tugging and points are deducted. Hawk 8 General 10

Round three - Around the nose

Close in the Hawk shows the longer reach to be less effective but manages to give great control of the fight making short work of the area from the top lip to under the nasal region. It's chiselled edge making precision work of its short strokes. The General with its weight advantage performs better with the inside fighting but is lesser in its effectiveness. This is edge of the seat stuff and the crowd show their vocal support for both fighters. No blood drawn and the rounds ends slightly favourable for the Hawk. Hawk 10 General 9

Round Four - Front of the neck to under the chin

Both razors give a good performance and there is nothing to split the two. No XTG's are delivered and marks have to be awarded for WTG and ATG only. It appears the General has been more efficient in this round with smoother action and cleaner finishing. The Hawk has been made to sweat. Hawk 9 General 10

Fifth and Final round, - Around the chin to under the bottom lip

Touch blades and we are in to the final round. Blows are coming thick and fast with both razors trying to impress the judges with some fancy handle work. left right, right left the cross punches are being delivered in great effect. Then out of the blue a thundering upper cut while trying to deliver an ATG the Hawk causes blood to be drawn from the chin. It is only a very slight cut but enough to make one weep. The referee steps in while the cuts man deals with the flow using the styptic pencil. This is a cruel blow as this may well have been from an earlier fight, but the judges will have to deduct points as a result. The General with its more rounded head glides around the chin with superb effectiveness while the Hawk looks flat. In the final minute strokes are being traded as both razors stand blade to blade between the upper chin and the bottom lip. Not enough room to get a whisker in here and impressive stuff. No more further bleeding and it looks as if Mr Murray has done his job.

The final bell and the fight is over. A wash down with cold water is given and a pat down with a fresh towel. No further styptic relief is required and L'Occitane Cade after shave balm is used to massage the skin. Wonderfully welcome

Hawk 7 General 10

With the fight going the distance it is down to the judges and the score cards. The final verdict is the General has won the fight by a split decision and is declared the winner.

'Get that pink thing out of the ring. We've said it before'

Sitting ringside is the present bathroom heavyweight razor champion Timeless 0.68 who will fight it out with the Timeless 0.95 next week. The winner to meet the General and slug it out for the right to be crowned, 'Undisputed bathroom heavyweight razor champion'. What a great fight we will have in prospect, SE vs DE and two colourful performers.

Thank you to the referee Mr Muhle for keeping the match flowing and all in control. And we do love your butterscotch trousers

Thank you fight fans and may I wish you all a great and wonderfully shaven evening. It is good night from here.

Excellent write up as usual.
The ring girl, although past her best, earned her crust tonight.
The easy money's on the General to become champ, and both the WSC and the WSA have reservations over a DE being allowed to step into the ring with the General.
"Play fair and feed the General to the Cobra" is the well balanced request from the tabloids.
Far kinder than the previous, "Hearse for Mr. Timeless."
