SOTD 26 May 2018

Pre-shave - Warm bath, Epsom Salt soak, post bath face wash Wright's Cold Tar Soap, followed by warm water splash.
Cream - Ingram Cream (passes 1 and 2) Aesop Moroccan Neroli Shaving Serum.
Brush - Simpsons The Duke 2, Best Badger.
Bowl - Little Wren Pottery.
Razor - Rockwell 6S (Plate 4).
Blade - Perma-Sharp Super Stainless (Day 1).
Post shave - Cold water splash; OSP Eucalyptus and Menthol Splash, Aesop Moroccan Neroli Post-Shave Lotion.
Cologne - Trumpters Sandalwood.

Best shave in a long time :)

Not had much time to post recently, work busy, earlier this week shaved with the Chubby 2 Synthetic, which sadly has since been binned; clumps of the knot fell out! I don't know what happened, perhaps the glue gave way? I look after my brushes, water never to hot etc.

I loaded the Rockwell 6S with a Perma-Sharp Super Stainless; kindly donated from Ian at the Gentlemans Groom Room. First time I have used the Perma-Sharp, what a blade - sharp and smooth.

Also a first shave with the Ingram cream, nice lather, which gave good protection and glide. However, I was hoping for more of a menthol kick, which seemed to be AWOL.

I decided to go with the Aesop Shave serum for the final ATG pass; the first 2 passes were WTG and XTG. I had problems with the Aesop shave serum in that in previous shaves there was no body; it dissapeared off my skin like snow off a dyke. No such problems this time. I don't know what made the difference, perhaps the badger brush - previously I have used synthetoc brushes with the Aesop shave serum. Wow; this time good body and protection from the shave - fab!

I finished with the OSP splash, which was cooling and refreshing; the smallest of dabs of the Aesop post-shave lotion, left the skin feeling devine. After a few sprays of the Trumpter's Sandalwool cologne to finish off.

The hardware and software came together; the Rockwell on plate 4 loaded with a Perma-sharp felt invincible and safe; the Chubby badger felt good, slightly abrasive on the skin in a good way. The Ingram cream was solid, great protection - super glide from the Aesop shave serum on the final pass; and post shave routine was delightful.

Gutted about the Chubby synthetic getting binned; that was a great brush - I may get another in time.

Hope all is well with everyone.

All the best,

Chris

Wednesday 23rd -

Razor - Schick O Type clone
blade - Schick Twin Japanese market (your guess is as good as mine - loads)
brush - Yaqi High Mountain White
soap - Kent tallow hard
post - witch hazel
balm - Aloe Vera gel
scent - Creed Bois de Portugal.

Today -

Razor - Yaqi DOC red and black mini
blade - Kai (4 and out)
brush - Yaqi Moka two-band (as seen above)
soap - Salters Lavender tallow
post - witch hazel
a/s - Tabac
balm - Barts Lavender lotion
scent - Caldey Island lavender edt.

Result - a tale of two shaves.

Wednesday - I hate having to shave in a hurry - loathe it. It's dangerous too - that's when you hurt yourself but if you wake up late with a four day growth and have a funeral to attend that morning there is no choice. Step forward the O type clone - the perfect tool for the job. Even in a hurried single pass - there was no danger of claret being spilled and I looked perfectly presentable in no time. Helped no end by the slickness and ease of lathering of the Kent soap. Today was the antidote - a full hour mimsy in the bathroom. Went full on lavender for the maximum relaxation effect - in fact I'm practically horizontal typing this. It's a beautiful day in Glasgow - window open as I shaved - a nice warm breeze wafting in. Just lovely - top end products from start to finish - my skin feels great and I smell nice - what's not to like? I continue to be well impressed with my two Yaqi badger brushes as they further break in - each in their own way superb for me. The High Mountain white is just getting softer and softer - the Moka is a lovely big tactile thing for face lathering - the knot is quite something. Neither has lost a single hair so far. Astonishing value for money. Happy days - enjoy yours shaves gentlemen - if you have the long weekend - enjoy that too. Yours - I.

Great write up as is normal from your good self, your photo had me stumped for a little while but I think I've identified the two objects beside your Moka badger brush.....would I be right in saying they are two wee badgers? :) I'm loving my Moka, as you say, not a single hair has been lost. Fantastic value for your money. P.

Back on track after a couple of 'dodgy' shaves........
SOTD260518.JPG

Pre:
Bulldog face wash and cold water rinse
Brush: 24mm Yaqi Sagrada Familia Synthetic
Soap: P&B Volupta
Razor: EJ89 Lined Handle
Blade: Nacet (2)
Post: Cold water rinse and Thayers unscented Witch Hazel
AS: Nivea 2 Phase

Loving the P&B soap, lovely scent and protective properties, top quality! Cold water shaves seem to be going well for me at the moment, no irritation and leaving me feel nice and cool in the 'heat' :)
Felt very at home again with the EJ and Nacet combo after a couple of not so great attempts, although made a bit of a mess on my neck by going in a different direction than normal (not sure why this seemed like a good idea?!). First use of the 2 phase (after seeing several users on here - saw it on sale so gave it a bash) and it seems to have worked nicely, left my face feeling lovely and smooth and moisturised. Smells good too!

Have a great rest of your Saturdays gents, and enjoy the Bank Holiday!

Saturday

Proraso M&E pre-shave
OSP Barbershop
Semogue 2000
Face lather
Ever Ready 1924 head on iKon SS handle
Gem SS PTFE
Thayer's Cucumber and Aloe Vera
Floïd Mentally Vigorous

After breaking in the Cyril R. Salter new solid tallow soap (heartily recommended), I thought I'd revisit the OSP Barbershop. An excellent shave was had; especially with the FrankenReady. A splash of the mental Mentally Vigorous to finish and all's well.

Brush: 'The Duke' (Duke 3 Best)
Soap: Shannon's Soaps ‘Forest City Fern'

OOOOH WEEEE! Let me tell ya... this Rust Belt Reserve soap is in a different league... if you like the regular base, then you'll love this... for me, ‘Forest City Fern' stands head and shoulders above the regular line up.. right from the 'get go', I could tell it was going to be something special.. and, with a faultless show from ‘The Rock'/GSB, this was a truly fantastic shave... finished off with Santal Auster Post-Shave Salve, and Moss Breches... a fantastic start to my bank holiday weekend.
