SOTD . SATURDAY 28th JULY - FRIDAY 3rd AUGUST 2018.

Prep: Valobra Glycerlanolina soap, Myrsol Emulsion
Brush: M&F / Brad Forbes Finest Badger
Soap: Haslinger Honig (tallow)
Razor: Merkur Futur (2)
Blade: Vintage NOS Personna Super Platinum Chrome (2)
Post: Thayers Cucumber Witch Hazel / Myrsol Emulsion
Scent: APR Ozymandias

A glorious lather was whipped up by the M&F brush, enhanced by the warm, comforting scent from the Haslinger soap.
I have shaved with most of the big hitters of the vintage blade club, and I must say that the Personna Super Platinum Chrome is up there with the very best. From my research, I conclude that this blade is the last of the the P74 line. From my shaving experience, it may also be the pinnacle of that line. Three stellar passes, and a few buffs courtesy of the excellent residual slickness of the soap, and I am BBS and grinning.

Good name for an after shave Tom - presumably a reference to the Shelley poem?

And on the pedestal these words appear:
'My name is Ozymandias, king of kings;
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!'
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

Cheers - I.

Good spot, Iain. Also a reference to the country of origin, I fancy.
I was delighted to hear some of this prose reprised in the recent Sci-Fi film "Alien: Covenant".

Did the brush impress?

My first go with a Noble Otter soap and I enjoyed it, good cushion and slickness and maybe the residual slickness would've been there if I'd added a bit more water initially.
Post shave was also good but I'm definitely going to push the water next time to see if it gets better.
The scent on the other hand is an eleven, pity we can't get the splash over here.
Happy Shaving one and all.

Top of the chain sell the splash and hopefully should resume their international shipping of aftershaves soon. https://topofthechain.ca/product/aftershave/noble-otter-aftershave/noble-otter-barrbarr-aftershave/

12th DE shave

Prep: Warm water rinse, BBA Face Wash then Proraso Pre Shave Cream
Cream: Figaro Shaving Cream Almond
Brush: ES Medium Jock synthetic
Razor: Merkur 34c
Blade: Feather Hi-Stainless (1)
Post: Cold rinse, Floid after shave balm.

I know I said I wouldn't change much from my new routine, which seems to be working really well for me.......BUT!

The Newbie Pass Around box arrived today and I couldn't help myself. I only have fourteen days with it and I want to try everything!

I asked my 14 year old daughter to choose a shaving soap and it came as no surprise when she chose the most pungent smell she could find - Figaro Almond. The smell is explosive as soon as the tub is opened. I pressed on with it regardless.

I tried the BBA face wash which gave me a fresh squeaky clean face. Then on with the Proraso pre shave cream. It was fresh too with a pleasant menthol smell. I could feel my stubble almost standing straight out (that doesn't sound right! ).

Which leads me on to the blade. I've read lots of reviews and, more importantly, warnings about Feather blades. A pack was in the box and I couldn't resist. I tried not to think about the warnings and shaved as normal. Surprisingly no weepers...at all. I used the new learned J-Hook technique on my touch ups again and it worked wonders.

After a cold rinse I fired on some Floid aftershave balms which have a slight burn and fresh feel. A BBS finish and fantastic feeling skin. Love it.

I'll try another approach tomorrow, though I'm really liking the Feather blades.

Have a great evening folks!

PS - my daughter phoned me to tell me the box arrived so I resisted going into the Gentleman's Groom Room. Once I've decided on a few things I like I'll pay a visit then remortgage the house!

Pre shave: Warm shower and L'Oreal face wash + Noxzema shave cream
Razor: Razorock Mamba
Blade: Polsilver SI (#1)
Soap: Tabac
Bowl: Korium
Brush: Proraso Boar
Post shave: Alum block, cold water splash and Thayer's Cucumber witch hazel
AS: Nivea 2 phase

First shave with my new Razorock Mamba, and it shaved just as I hoped it would after reading many reviews. It seems many people like this razor but many others say it is too mild, for me it worked perfectly on the first shave. Yes it is mild, but it is also very efficient. Three passes and a nice close finish. :)

Declaration Grooming/Chatillon Lux Colonia Balsamica aftershave

The Noble Otter soap was excellent. The scent is great, powdery and subtle but the scent strength is good and present throughout the shave.
Performance was great too. A joy to use. Love it.

The Polsilver worked a treat in the REX. 3 passes and a little touch-up on my neck, job done.

Cheers
Rob
