Pre: Warm towel face wash
Cream: T&H Ultimate Comfort
Bowl: Executive Shaving handmade
Brush: Razorock Bruce synth
Razor: Razorock Game Changer 68
Blade: Rapira Swedish Supersteel
Post: Aloe Vera Gel

Nice 3 pass DFS W/W/X with a little ATG touchup on upper cheeks. No ATG under the jawline for me. Really getting to grips with the Game Changer. Expected nothing from this blade and was prepared to give up on them after previous use in an open comb left my face a state and feeling red raw. Turns out it's actually ok in a closed comb, hey ho I guess OC's aren't my bag.

Am solely using this razor for now, and going through all my different blades in it one by one. Also discovering that aloe vera gel is great for my face, as well as being cheap as chips, and that using face washes before shaving doesn't necessarily give a better shave. Water only prep this time & one of best DE shaves ever. Like night and day compared to the cartridge shave I had the other day!

The theme for today's shave was 'Happy New Year'

20190205_133208.jpg

Year of the pig - Colonial General
Year of the monkey - Kai Captain (16 and out)
Year of the rat - Razorock 24mm Plissoft synthetic
Year of the goat - Gentlemen's Tonic
Year of the dragon - Men's Grooming Thistle and Black Pepper facial soap
Year of the Snake - Nivea Intensive moisturiser

A Happy New Year to all our Chinese friends and may this year of the Pig be most prosperous and joyous. It was also interesting to read that today by Chinese superstition one was supposed to avoid using scissors, laundry activities and sweeping floors. I am happy to say I managed to put a tick in every box. However my clothes reek, my floors are like a farmyard and I have to wait until tomorrow morning before I can aimlessly cut up pieces of paper.

"I've never felt finer", said the King of China
Sitting down to dine
And then he died, he died he did
It was only half past nine

Classical Spike Milligan

This shave was much about getting the job done and getting it done quickly. Step up the Colonial General complete with a Kai Captain on its 16th outing. I guess the blade was starting to show its aged edge and I can't say it was the best of performances but it did the job. BBS it wasn't, Then again I didn't really care and expectations were never going to be high being as I had some 5 minutes or so to achieve and get out. Considering 10 minutes of that was showering and preparation, 5 minutes taken cleaning everything up at the end and it only goes to figure that I was late in life.

Kings of China, half past nine and all that, but at least I can say 'I've never felt finer'.

Gentlemen's Tonic is (as I have said before) one wonderful cream, quality, quality and more of that quality. The brush making short work and effort to toss together one creamy lather (without getting too pornographic). I love this product and on my way home next week I shall drop in at the Traditional Shaving Company over in Leeds and spoil myself. I am slowly taking the B road in to soaps, but everyone needs an M62 once in a while. It just so happens the M62 takes me past Leeds when travelling back to Liverpool and gives me a weak excuse to visit the wonderful shop TSC have in the Grand Arcade. Weak excuses are always the best, plus I don't have to justify to Mrs.Satanfriendly items arriving on the doorstep. Weak and Wimpy? Yes indeed.

So overall a pleasant shave if not the greatest of results. But hey, end results don't always have to be perfect as long as perfection is reached in happiness and today I can say, 'that was one happy shave'. Pigs bottom smooth

So here's wishing you all happy shaves and have one pig of a year

SOTN, Phoenix & Beau Obsidian soap, Blackbird OC with a Voskhod blade and my own brush, 1st shave with the Blackbird and found it bit to aggressive with the Voskhod blade, quickly swapped to an Astra SP and it was a lot smoother and more pleasurable, the razor handle feels great and grippy, well balanced and a joy to look at. This is one of the joys of this hobby, new razor and playing about and discovering what works with it, anyway no nicks no cuts to irritation just an excellent close shave and very smooth afterwards.
What are you preferred bladed with the open comb?

Date: 06 February 2019

Pre-shave:- Cold Water straight from the tap
Brush:- RazoRock Plissoft Synth. 24/57mm knot
Soap/Cream:- Arko (4 shaving sticks grated into a 250ml plastic tub)
Bowl/Scuttle:- Captain's Choice
Razor/Blade:- Rockwell 6C 'R6' / Vintage NOS Wizamet Polsilver Brown #8
Post-shave:- Thayers Witch Hazel & Tea Tree Oil / WAHL Bay Rum Aftershave Splash
Fragrance:- L'eau D'issey Pour Homme

I don't normally shave every single day, so why not for the whole month of February Summer Arko shave, I'm glad my skin is holding up for Arko just a tag dryer on my face for everyday shave which is no drama.

Arko shave stick seems fantastic for the whole summer season, so you don't have to worry too much about your skin drying out because we all start sweating again soon, Arko stick is fantastic when using only cold water because the lather explodes very quickly and very slick throughout the whole shave with a tip of water for each pass. I'm glad to have a whole of 12 Arko shave sticks suitable for Spring and Summer shaves, I'm not complaining about the smell of a very light lemon scent which is nowhere to a urinal cake smell.

Result; an exceptional good shave
but that can also be my shaving technique!

SOTD Wednesday 06 Febuary 2019

Pre-shave: Warm shower, Kiehl's Ultra Face Cleanser, followed by cold water splash.
Cream: Kiehl's Lite Flite Shave Cream.
Brush: Shavemac ' The Flat Top' Slivertip.
Bowl: Giles Shaving Co - Spotty Pedstal Wet Shaving Bowl.
Razor: Colonial General SS.
Blade: Kai Captain (Pink) Mild (3).
Post: Cold water, Ibiza Aloe - Aloe Vera gel and Musgo Real Cologne No. 4 - Lavender.

A 2 pass shave with the General today WTG, XTG (face) and WTG, (ATG) neck. DFS + finish with no issues to report.

First reflections on the differences between the General and the Blackland Vector: the General is slightly more efficient - feels a more robust razor, with the Vector more nimble and fun.

All the best,

Chris
