SOTD : Saturday 2nd June - Friday 8th June 2018

Wednesday 6th June

Birch Tar Soap
Vitos Pre Shave Cream
NSS Warm Spice Traditional Soap
Omega 10051 Boar Brush
Parker Variant Razor (3.5) with a Rapira Stainless Blade
Alum Block and Rinse
Argan Oil
Old Spice Original AS

One pass would have been sufficient for a DFS...but what would have been the fun in that! Two more passes have left me with the Ultimate Face Feeling Finish:D

Off work today. SWMBO is away for a few days at an Equestrian School. She has asked me to bring her some medication for the horse and to take some photos while there ......... so I get to have a nice long rideout on the Bike. Spice Bomb will be in attendance to neutralise the inevitable 'Eau de Horse'!

Brush: Omega S10083
Cream: Cella
Razor: Wilkinson Sword Classic
Blade: Astra Superior Platinum(1)

It'll be the same kit all week, so no need for another photo.

I got the lather right this morning, and turned the razor round for the new edge. Probably nothing I used this morning could be termed 'aspirational', but it all came together to give a fantastic shave. One of those you wish you could always have.

I hope yours have been as good - happy shaving!

RR German 37 on Weber Bulldog
Omega Chunky Chubb
Humphrey's Cucumber & Melon Witch Hazel
Valobra Cologne Shaving Soap
Swiss Pitralon

...I purchased a Merkur Slant 37c recently and was left disappointed. It did not give me an easy close shave like the 39c or RR German 37 Slant - it felt like a different razor. I put this down to the handle and packed it away as I did not have the patience to dial in the angle. However I recently read that from 2015 Merkur altered the head design slightly on their Slant resulting in a milder shave. Alas this rings true; for me they ruined a classic, winning design! All is not lost though, I pressed into service after some considerable time my trusty RR German 37 on a Weber Bulldog. The RR's head design is a close copy of the Merkur pre 2015 Slant head, albeit a tad smoother but just as efficient. Normal service has been resumed. The RR 37 is a great shaver especially on a SS handle and a steal. I also never really warmed to Valobra's hard soaps, the scents are just off for me, that said I have been using it for a while and the performance is good but I have to say I prefer Palmolive grated both for performance and scent. Finished off with the superb Swiss Pitralon.

Interesting to read your findings of the Merkur 37C.
I found that mine didn't live up to the awesome reputation either.
I found I had to put in extra effort to get close to BBS.
I'll have to look into the RR slant some time.

Wednesday:

Pre: Shower with some nice barsoap
Razor: MÜHLE R89
Blade: Personna Red
Brush: Yaqi 26mm synthetic
Soap: Wickham 1912 - Magnum
Post: Cold Water, Humphrey's Witchhazel and Aloe Vera-gel

It was the very first time for me to try a Personna-blade. In combination with the MÜHLE R89-razor it had a smooth, mild and very satisfying shave.

Omega 10051
Vintage Merkur
Supermax Platinum (2)
Mitchells Wool Fat
Nivea 2 Phase & Myrsol Blue

A good shave but I find with this razor I am prone to weepers, probably just me. I really want to get rid of this razor but the rarity means I can't quite let go just yet.. Superb lather with Mitchells, going to use Haslinger Schafsmilch (tallow) tomorrow or Friday for a comparison.

...yes it is a shame that Merkur changed the head design. The RR is great though and worth a punt, RR even sell a SS handle to go with it at a great price...
