Vintage Razor Blades

Hi all,

Question about vintage blades!

Can anyone recommend some good NOS/vintage blades?

Or if it's worth it at all?

Thanks
There are some great NOS/Vintage blades, the problems are availability, condition and variability of price. If you can find them for the right price there are some gems out there that are well worth trying. That said there are modern blades that perform equally as well, I just like the idea of using these NOS/Vintage blades.

English Wilkinson Sword blades are a good bet, as are any 60/70/80s Gillette stainless blades from almost anywhere they were made. Stainless steel blades are the safest bet, but I have tried coated carbon steel such as Gillette Blue or Gillette Thin blades and they were pretty good.

I can recommend these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GILLETTE-BLADES-STAINLESS-20-packets-of-5-blades/263391988545

And these: https://www.shaving.ie/products/100-polsilver-blades.html These are getting quite exepnsive now but they are one of my favourite blades.

PM me your details if you are interested and I will send you a selection of NOS/Vintage blades. That way you can decide if this is a rabbit hole you might want to go down........

Not really, IMHO. I have owned/used (and then sold damn near all the rest) a truckload of vintage DE blades. Some were very good indeed, but today's modern blades, especially Gillette, are IMO just a flat out better deal in the end. Some people feel that vintage blades are better. I don't in particular anymore. I think that the right razor with good prep/technique and a top tier soap are more important in the end IF you use a quality blade. A top tier artisan soap can really make a good blade shine. The artisan soap "rabbit hole" is the most rewarding if you ask me. After all, you can't drive a Formula One car on a gravel road. ;)

Some great vintage blades out there. Of those I've tried my favourites are Lodz Polsilver, Gillette "Swedes", some of the English Wilkies. I've bought them at reasonable prices or inherited. I wouldn't spend over the odds on them. Lots of good modern ones to choose from too.

If you feel like spending the money on them, some good ones are Gillette 'Swedes,' 'Annecy Swedes,' Bleue Extras, Platinum 'Surreys,' Platinum Plus, Silver Blues, or Super Stainless 'Spoilers;' Personna 74s and Super Platinum Chromes; Schick Krona Comfort Edges and Plus Platinums; and Wilkinson Light Brigades, Falcons, London Bridges, and Sword Masters.
