What's the correct order please - Balm or Aftershave......and other questions

Cold water, then aftershave splash, then the balm - and off ye go.

P.S. in case you need a logical justification, since I don't see anyone having provided it - cold water and AS splash close the pores and disinfect, while the balm provides soothing and moisturises.
 
Warm water rinse, cool water rinse, alum, rinse, witch hazel/rose water then aftershave splash/balm depending on the weather and the condition of my skin.

I could easily skip a couple of the steps, but alum is useful for gauging the quality of my shave and lets me know if I need extra moisturising/skin repair. Witch hazel is found in many aftershave splashes and toners but is inexpensive and effective and is just a habit for me.
