i had this posted on B+B to ask opinions as to whether my razor was any good or not.
basically i bought it in Manchester about 20 yrs ago after some mates went down to look at a motor and we got lost.
ended up in some huge shopping centre and whilst wandering round i found a shop that was a purveyor of knives to the gentry and they had an open razor section so i got one and a strop.
later that night i foamed up (still on the canned stuff at that time) and, well :?
with no instructions, how the hell do you hold/use this thing?
looks easy in the cowboy films, can't be that hard.
my first try was holding the blade at right angles to my face
cue lot's of scraping, bouncing etc
you get the idea
so to combat this i went for a REALLY shallow angle - maybe i should be using a slicing action
well slice i did
my face
disaster all round
fcuk me it hurt, and bleed, JHC! (sorry Ollie)
so it was resigned to a drawer for years
i did mention it to the wife when we were courting and she was a hairdresser in her younger days, well back when they still offered shaves at the barbers, so she offered to shave me
i was pretty nervous but to her credit the first thing she did was a Hanging Hair Test and immediately said "this isn't sharp enough"
so no shave
FWD to now and i had given the blade and strop away to a barber but have got it back with the intent to learn how to use the damn thing.
it has been honed by a proffesional but i'm still not convinced it's sharp enough.
anyhoo, here's some picture for you to see
