Nothing pedestrian about your selection, I really enjoy all those in your list, they are great razors and my list is pretty visceral and if you ask me again next month what are mine I would probably have one or two of those mentioned.I have 4 favourites but the order I like them in varies depending on mood!
Muhle R89 Twist
Merkur 34C HD
Merkur 38C Barber pole
Gillette Tech (aluminium, including the Star/PAL which is very similar)
All very pedestrian I'm afraid, but I like them. As for stainless steel being best for a 'lifetime' razor - I'm 75, a BIC disposable could be a lifetime razor!
Yes agreed, but for me I go with what's best and suitable for my skin, and that goes for not only the razors that I put down as my choices as for the blade pairings for each razor as well. Out of the three that I chose, I bought 2 of them with my own funds and I was very fortunate for my name to be drawn in a raffle for the Passaround razor for the other one - Carbon CX on another shaving forum, a couple of month's back. There is a very strange phenomenon in shaving where a very high price is related to quality and especially shave quality. But that's not always true. As the song goes, "It's not about the price tag."
Anyway, my favourite razors not in any particular order and all mostly low priced::
Fatip Grande Testina Gentile
Gillette Tech made in England aluminium base plate and handle
Gillette 7 O'Clock (the cheapest at £4.99)
Baili BD 176 (Gillette Tech clone)
Ever- Ready Pat.1912 Gem blade
There are some cracking SE razors out there and yet another rabbit hole for you to fall into.Tatara with Masamune cap, Nodachi plate, and Nodachi handle. This has been very efficient and approachable for me while also looking stellar.
I would really like to try a SE, specifically Atelier Durdan La Faulx
Got to concur, Neil - I have been blown away by the Leaf razor for head shaving! For head shaves - Leaf (nothing else comes close)
DE - Feather AS-D2
SE- Blackland Vector
Shavette - Feather DX
