Just discovered soaps!

DRH is definitely the gold standard amongst English hard soaps. GFT has been iffy for me. Rose lathers great, almond and sandalwood, not so much.

Tabac is the gold standard amongst tallow based soaps though. Lathers extremely easily & provides a nice, slick, cushiony lather. Smells strongly of something though.

MdC is the holy grail of soaps. Expensive as hell though.

AoS is reformulated. Haven't tried it yet.

Valobra is great. C&S has a good scent, but is expensive.

MWF is tricky to lather but has good moisturizing properties.
 
I have tried the wilkinson sword blue bowl, but it felt a bit like a canned foam. My current favourite is wrights coal tar soap, or any tallow based bath soap. I find it gives a good lather with my boar brush and they're quite cheap.
 
i tried the GFT rose this morning and it really did perform well.

great lather and very slick - ok, the scent is weak but it does everything else well and is worth a go
 
I've not much experience with soaps but I like the Dr Dittmar that I got at Christmas. Seems easier to control the lather for second and third passes. It gives me a great shave
