From the first link:

Harrelson’s first point is that “the very best natural waterstones top out at about 10,000 to 12,000 grit” so Konrad’s final polish with his natural stone may not be contributing to his goal in this case.

I was under the impression the very best natural waterstones went well beyond 12,000 grit.
