Thank you for the swift reply, looking forward to trying it, my only other experince of open combs are Muhle R41 and Fatip Grande, both of which i found to be too aggressive.
Well it was ten years ago or so, I don't want to overhype as you still have to match an appropriate blade to your beard. I liked the Shark Super Chrome with it at the time which was not ultra sharp but sharp enough, I have a fairly course mediterranean type beard and it did the job.

The razor arrived today, i had intended stripping it back to brass but decided to give it a quick polish and enjoy the 80 years or so of wear.
I used a new Kai blade and the shave was very different to what i expected, i was prepared for a much more aggressive shave lots of blade feel and perhaps a drop or two of blood, what i got was a very smooth irritation free shave, good to feel a little blade but nothing scary, finding the correct angle was very easy.
Very impressed with this razor, easily the best i have tried so far, it shaves closer than Techs i have tried and deals with my chin and neck area, something other razors have failed to do.
The Long Comb New is an excellent razor! That's what I've been using this week, mine is a ball end also. If you should ever want to change the handle on that one, check the diameter where the handle meets the head, some handles won't fit in the space provided.
