Exclusive: A hands-on, first look at the Blackland Blackbird razor

I actually rather like that it doesn't have the BB 'grooves' in it. That would feel a bit too matchy-matchy.
Really nice looking stand. Well done!
Where does it come from?

Thank you gents. I'd like to take credit for making the stand but I only made the fag-packet drawings.

The insert was drawn but one of the CAD engineers in my team and made by the Rapid Prototype workshop and the metalwork was made by a machinist in the Instrumentation workshop (which will cost me a bottle of wine.) (Unofficial) Access to these facilities helps offset all the crap that goes with my job ;)

A razor transformed! Finally got to use my Bluebird this morning - and I fell in love immediately! It's still aggressive but not so much - a bloodless BBS without paying undue attention to proceedings, enough but not undue as I had to with the original razors. The drag is eliminated - even with a less than good, new glycerin soap. The round handle made a lot of difference for me, giving greater and finer manoeuvrability. It was also a modified epee handle so the balance of the razor was improved for my style of shaving.

So the Bluebird is a win, win razor - it looks good and it shaves good (well, I know but ...). I'm very pleased I had Delta Echo coat it for me - thanks, Jay. Thanks also to @jpgh Paul for the epee idea - so many of my handles are designed using it.

Impressive to see all the development by members here.

Your stand is stunning. Ingenious design and beautyful executed. I love it.

@ Bechet
Your Bluebird looks great. The color truly gives it a different style. Lovely to hear that the modifications improved the razor for you. Is the handle SS and got you modified the quite sharp corners of the baseplate before coating?

I was thinking about which razor to use tonight - I think I am going for the Blackbird :)

Regards Marco

Well Jay most certainly knows his stuff! Once he knew my colour idea, he suggested modifications to get the result you see. And the coating is perfect - no smudges or bleeding. I think Shane was impressed with the razor, too.

Very much so!

Quick update today:

Handles have been completed. The top caps and base plates are partially done and will receive their final machining operations next week.

Here are the half-finished head pieces all snug in their little cartons.
