S.O.T.D. Saturday 8th October - Friday 14th October 2016

One thing I've learned is that every human face is as unique as a fingerprint or DNA when it comes to what works when wet shaving...pre-shave, blade, AS, balm etc...we all have different responses. For me Voskhods are great, especially in an EJDE89 razor...but Nacets edge them (just) and Personna Platinums (blues) are very close. BUT...with different soaps and/or pre-shaves and razors they may all be about equal...at least on my face.
As for Myrsol Emulsion, it is a pre- and post-shave cream. I use it mainly as a pre-shave as I think there are better post-shave balms but fewer better pre-shave creams.

What's your favorite aftershave balm?

Prep: Myrsol Emulsion
Soap: Razorock Santa Maria del Fiore
Bowl: Aesop by Sori Yanagi
Brush: Pils Silvertip
Razor: ATT S2 on Hempel TI handle
Blade: Ladas Super Stainless
Post: Alum Rub
AS: Floid Blue

Great set up. Any chance you could post a link to where I could get the handle?

Another great pot GB!...also like the brush....;)

To give full credit to the guy who made this brush, I got it on Etsy...here's his link:
https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/Woodcraftings

All I can say is that I've been very happy with the brush I bought from Steve at Woodcraftings and have featured it in several of my posts as an unbranded synthetic. It was about the same price as my Razorock Plissoft, which has been excellent but collapsed in the middle for some reason. I contacted Steve and told him I would mention him if he was open for people to ask him for brushes (tbh I felt a bit bad not giving him credit for his work)...it's his hobby, not his business...so I am making NO statements of endorsement beyond my own experience from ONE brush (it could be a fluke). This is a guy who likes making stuff and may be able to make you a nice brush. :)

Good Evening Gents,
Welcome to the "I used the Muhle R41 and survived"

I've heard of close shaves but this is taking the piss!

Prep: Hot shower and Nivea face scrub.
Pre: King of shaves oil and bloom water.
Razor: Muhle R41 Head on ATT Kronos handle.
Blade: Astra SP
Brush: Semogue 830.
Soap: Saponifico Varesino 'Manna di Sicilia'.
Post: Cold water rinse and Alum block (I know I'm a Sadist).
Myrsol Emulsion and Nivea Hydro moisture gel.

Well I got through the shave without any drama and I only caught myself once.

The R41 is very deceptive. I looked at the blade exposure and thought they'd packed the wrong head. How wrong was I!?
Sweet Maria, it's all bloody blade!

I took it steady and it went OK but I didn't like the Astra blade in this head. It was on the tuggy side. I think I'll try a Nacet next.

After the cold water and alum I applied the Myrsol...and applied it again and some more....and applied some more. It just kept disappearing into my skin. I had to go straight to the Nivea moisture gel. It felt as though I'd taken a layer of skin of.
Although it's up there with one of the closest shaves I had, my face doesn't feel tender.

Enjoy the rest of your evening.
Cheers
Rob
I tried the r41 and let's just say I didn't like it and leave it at that.

Nugen shaving oil, Derby Menthol cream, Futur with new Derby blade. Dolce & Gabbana

Fancied a menthol shave but have no soap. P&B on the list but this will have to do until then. Not much menthol but lovely and soft on the skin. Oil made up, feel the menthol!

Quick 2 pass on setting 1, no ATG pass, good shave but not BBS, not needed today. Alum on a small nick under my nose and Witch Hazel the rest.

Lovely AS not got much of this left, might ask Santa for some!

Have a good Wednesday gents!

Salutations Folks

Wednesday's order of business
Bulldog Face Wash
Semogue 1460 boar
Haslinger HÅ“nig
Face lather
Gillette Superspeed W1 1951
Feather #2
Thayer's Rose Petal and Aloe Vera witch hazel
Fine Platinum
Lalique Encre Noir edt

Gotta love the honey! Great stuff and skin feels really smooth post-shave. The Feather and Superspeed make a great team. I'm hardly aware of the blade cutting through my honeyed whiskers.

Be well, Friends.

Stephen.

Wed 12th Oct

RazoRock Plissoft 24mm
P & B Spitfire
Merkur Futur
Personna Lab Blue [ 2 ]
Myrsol Antesol A/S Lotion

Used this Razor a lot in the early days of my return to DE shaving , learnt after some mishaps
to let the weight of it [124g] do the work,so a light touch is also required. Today ,after getting the
the Shave Angle right the shave was effortless and smooth. I think to an extent that learning to shave with this razor , has made my move into SE/Injector Shaving much easier.

Recent shaves have been so good that I am often dispensing with my usual Alum Rub/Rinse off, this makes the application of an A/S splash seem more invigorating.

Prep: Shower
Razor: Wilkinson Sword Classic
Blade: Treet Durasharp Carbon
Brush: RazoRock Plissoft
Cream: La Toja
Aftershave: Astral Cream (soft)
EDT: Boucheron Jaipur Homme

I turned out my shaving misc. and junk drawer yesterday and found this lurking in the back, now I remember why I put it there, it's not the greatest shaver especially with this less sharp blade, my usual three passes and a lot of buffing has still only resulted in a fair shave at best.

Back to razors that I like more tomorrow, it has however been interesting to re-visit my DE's especially the ones I rarely use and it makes me realise why, in general, I prefer vintage SE's.

Regards
Dick.

I got the wilkinson sword classic to take on holiday with me as it was nice and light. I ended up using a disposable provided by the hotel as I could not get a decent shave with it and it had had a really sharp plastic bit that just scratched me every time I used it
