Certainly not a daft answer, Scotty!...I often use alum (I've referred to it as my Geiger counter, because it helps me test for potential burn etc) but not really noticed the 'tightness' you mentioned. OR...perhaps what you feel as tightness, I actually like as a post-shave feel...either way, try a little Trumper's skin food...marvellous stuff to follow any shave!;):)
Thanks, GB; I've heard good things about GFT's Skin Food. I'll give it a whirl when the dust settles on the most recent spending frenzy

What I have noticed is that there's little, if any, irritation on my neck sans alum. Many other variables, though; improved technique and prep, for instance. ☺.

First use with Stirling's new formula. Wow, it was always very slick but this stuff has great stability in lather and protection. I'll be getting more of this stuff.

Stirling Piacenza Soap
Gillette Fat Tech
Gillette Silver Blue (3)
Stirling Kong Synthetic
Stirling Piacenza Splash & Balm

Roger & Gallet L'Homme aftershave (vintage)...

I have a vintage bottle of Roger & Gallet called Open. An underrated classic.

SOTD

Schick Krona
MÜHLE
Silvertip fibre brush
Cella soap
Shaved 1/2 with a Brazilian Super Barba blade before tossing it. Very mediocre. Finished up with a Brazilian Wilkinson Sword.
Pinaud Clubman

these things always remind me of the old Tommy Cooper joke... (I paraphrase):
Patient: Doctor, when I lift my arm like this it hurts.
Doctor: Don't do it then!

I think I might try leaving the alum out for a while and see if I notice any improvements too!:);)

Pot of the day...
It's a black Celtic cross...yes, I know it's not a star, but it's the best thing I have for my recently arrived P&B Star Noir:) (It will do until I find something better)

The shave: Shower and Proraso White pre-shave cream / Star Noir / Unbranded synthetic brush / Parker 22 + Nacet / Denim Black AS / Proraso white balm.

Star Noir is yet another winner from P&B...totally unique and subtle scent. It worked great with Denim Black (it was going to be either that or Floid Black but the Denim was perfect). I wanted to try the Nacet blade with a different razor, so I dug out the old Parker 22...the blade definitely made this a better razor for me...still not an EJ89-beater but good nevertheless:):)
Have a good evening all!

The Hawk. Well damn that's a great shaver. I did one superb pass with the Bunny last night (cuz I couldn't wait), two passes this morning with the Hawk/Pro, followed by a head shave exclusively with the Hawk. While the Hawk performed beautifully on the light beard it really shone on the head shave, delivering by far the closest I've had, taking care of tough spots heretofore only smoothed out with lots of buffing with the General or Injectomatic. A couple nicks but I'm sure that was me, a little irritation but not anything to worry about. Bunny tomorrow.
