Supply provision revised SE razor

Hope you did not get stung for Blade import.
Yea I was thinking about that and I think I may well do..... Well you live and learn but it will end up being the most expensive blades ever!
How the RM can charge £8 for something that only cost £8 to start with I don't know! + vat ? If I get a card for the blades I may just forget them and write it off instead of throwing more money at it.

My God, sometimes I complain about taxes, but you guys get taxed over shedding pubes for god's sake.

We are quite heavily taxed in the UK but I don't think we have the highest taxes in the world so I guess I shouldn't moan too much but when the tax and RM charges out strips the value of the item being taxed it makes you wonder what's going on! :)

Tax is one thing, and, apart from VAT, we don't usually have to pay duties on the type and value of shaving gear we import from anywhere outside the EU. On the other hand, the Royal Mail £8 is a fee or service charge for doing sweet FA. For what they actually do, £2 would be excessive.

There has long been a tradition in the UK of bodies (national and local government, service providers, rail companies - you name it) slipping in snide charges, hidden fees and taxes, and the rest. Being Brits, we generally shut up and meekly put up with it. Other citizenries, with more robust views on such things, either refuse to pay, or riot in the streets; or both.

Yes i quite agree, I coudnt see this happening in France for instance, l think a mass refusal to pay would be great....by as you say, we are British! :)

I hear you. I easily pay sixty + cents on the dollar when you figure federal and state income, then property and state/municipal sales taxes, then "pension" and "medical".

We are all a bunch of frogs in a pot of water with the burner turned on. Being slowly cooked to death and too foolish to know.

You know, you're absolutly right, if there is a RM £8 charge i shall just refuse to pay . I will have my say at the local sorting office and ask for my £8 razor blades without any extra charges and if they say no well I shall stand strong and say NO ! Send it back to where it came from! If I'm going to the sorting office there should be no charges to pay, RM will not have to deliver because I am picking it up! Thank you , I will stand up and stand strong!

I'm not saying it's right or anything but my take on the RM fee was that they pay the customs fee for you in advance and then the fee covers their outlay plus costs.

So why do you pay a fee in the first place? This is an itemized, line item cost to fund the customs department because they have no general funding through your government? Like paying postage? Sounds great, but I bet they are funded six ways to Sunday elsewhere.

Kind of like my still paying taxes to fund the Spanish American War on my telephone bill......

From what I understand the £8 fee is a RM handling fee ,import duty and tax is on top of that and separate from the RM ransom.

I hate it too but -
1. Like or not the customs fee is due to HMRC.
2. The private carrier firm pays the fee on our behalf.
3. They then recover the cost of the customs fee plus a charge for the service.
You can argue the fee is excessive (I agree) but in a free market economy it doesn't seem unreasonable.
You have to factor in the cost of the item plus shipping, customs and handling when importing from outside the EU. If it slips through then fantastic.
Look on the bright side in a couple of years EU purchases could attract duty as well.

Well, from what I understand and bear in mind I could be wrong, I'm not an expert on UK taxation, the £8 Royal Mail fee is charged from point of entry to the country to your address , import charges are even more complicated , some things up to a certan value are free from this charge some are not and then there is the most strange tax of all which is VAT value added tax, now this used to be ony for luxury goods but now it seems you pay vat on just about everything ,even food.....well food to me is not a luxury it is essential for life! So as you can see it's quite complicated and I don't fully understand it but being British I just pay without question because that's what we do in Britain!
I've looked at the www.taxesrubbishpage but am still none the wiser .
