Exec Shaving pre
Semogue 2000
Cella
ATT M2/Astra
Alum
Extro Bay Rum
The 2000 was on debut and paired with my first experience with Cella, it was disappointing.
I couldn't get the combination to lather if I'd still been trying an hour later.
Brush has had 6/8 lather/dry cycles and seemed soft enough but I couldn't get the bubbles out of the lather,...what lather there was thin and didn't last.
The first pass was so poor that I mixed up some Vulfix cream which saved the day.
Mebbe it was me, but the Cella had nowhere near the cushion and glide I'd experienced with even the cheapest cream.
The alum rub was 'entertaining', to put it mildly, presumably due to the first pass. The Extro was expectedly bracing, but I'm off to apply some Cade a/s balm.
Not a fan of soap so far,....:-(
It is very unusual , Cella is suposed to be a very good croap and should lather with ease ( note...I have not used Cella ) but many shavers swear by it, it sounds like you may have had a little too much water ,in your brush to begin with or maybe added to much when lathering.
Try again sometime and watch how much water you are adding. :)

Do you find the ATT SE1 difficult to load?
It's certainly not the easiest to load, but I can't say I have a real problem with it. You just have to concentrate while doing it as the bits that keep the blade in place are rather small, certainly compared to other SE razors that I've tried.

What I do is hold the cap unpside down, put the blade in place, then drop the base plate on top and hold the lot together between my fingers while I screw the handle on. That way it works for me every time :)

Thanks very much. I'll have to try your method.

Evening Gents,

Prep: Hot shower, L'Oreal charcoal face and Wickams Magnum bath soap
Razor: Timeless 0.95 OC
Razor blade(s): Gillette Silver Blue AND Gillette 7 o'clock yellow
Brush: Thater
Bowl: Little Wren Pottery
Soap: Wickhams Magnum
Post: Thayers witch hazel and Dove sensitive aftershave balm.

Third use of the Timeless. I chose the Gillette silver blue after a lucky dip.

The shave was terrible. It was rough and extremely pain in places. I really felt the blade this time, very similar to the Muhle R41. I couldn't go against the grain so I swapped the blade back to the Gillette yellow. What I really should have done is swap the base plate.
Thing is should you really need to swap and change blades and base plates in a £200+ razor? Mmm no.
I will try again later in the week with a Polsilver but with the 0.68 plate.

To finish on a positive note.
I had better results with the Magnum soap. I bloomed the puck with a little water. I added this to the bowl and shook the brush out 4 or 5 times. I didn't add any more water and the lather was more to my liking. The scent is great and additive. @Fox

Thanks again to Paul @Lann for the loan of the razor.
Also thanks to the folk (you know who you are) who strongly advised against buying the Timeless without trying it first. It's looks like you have saved me a shed load of cash. If we ever meet I'll buy you a pint or two.

Cheers
Rob

Razor: Gillette Fat Boy Adjustable (G3) 1961
Blade: Personna 74 Tungsten Plus (4)
Brush: Elite Razor Tres Amigos Desert Ironwood Beehive w/Envy White
Soap: Arko
Aftershave: Old Spice Fresh Lime

This is one of my favorite Gillette razors. I had an early 3 pass shave with a good clean up. Everything worked very well. I haven't used Arko soap very much, but I was surprised how well it lathered.
Have to go to a meeting tonight that is why an earlier than usual shave.

Tuesday's shave

Pre-shave - Warm shower, Wright's Coal Tar Soap and The Gentleman's Groom Room Shave.
Razor - Hone 15a.
Blade - Gillette 7 O'Clock Yellow (day 2).
Soap - Executive Shaving Bay Rum Shave Cream.
Brush - Simpsons Chubby 2 - Best Badger
Post shave - Baxter of California Shave Tonic, followed by D R Harris Bay Rum After Shave.

Great shave, really enjoying the Hone 15a with the Gilette Yellow's - nice comfortable 3 pass shave, no issues. Skin felt good all day. For me and I apprecaite YMMV the Gilette Yellow's are an excellent blade in the 15a.

All the best,

Chris

@Far Cry Toff , having used Cella, which is still one of my favourites, I agree with @Blademonkey, I think he has hit the nail right on the head here, too much water to start or too much added later will do this to Cella. It might take some practice to get the balance right, unlike something like Tabac where you just it show it the Brush and it magically creates wonderful lather Cella does need a bit of coaxing but it is worth it.

@Far Cry Toff - I agree with the above advice completely and might add - I don't have the 2000 Semogue but do have the 1305 in regular use. These boars - in my experience - take a lot longer to break in than you think. Initially, after half a dozen palm lathers - I wrongly thought mine was good to go and felt so-so about the brush but kept using it. One day - we were there - no hassles with water retention and feathery split tips. Funnily enough, I often reach for it when I choose Cella. Seems a natural combo? With this soap I start the brush pretty dry - load well - very well, it's cheap right? - and add a few drops from my finger tips into the middle of the knot as and when needed. Little by little. When you hit the sweet spot you'll know. Hope this helps - I.

Flash - Is that the synth version of the Epsilon? It's a bit hard to tell from the pic. How do you find it? I'm no expert with synthetic knots but I have a horse version and love it. Albeit it took an age to break in. I.
It is @Digimonkey. I find it to be an excellent brush with plenty of backbone. Highly recommended.
