S.O.T.D. Saturday 20th May to Friday 26th May 2017

Two part shave of which the first part was wretched.

Schick Model I 2 injector
NOS Schick Plus Platinum blade (2?)
Maggard 22mm black synthetic brush
Aqua Velva AS

The problem was with the soap. I first "attempted" using a sample of Lebelle Barbershop soap which is an artisan tallow soap. It was then I remembered why I gave away the other sample I had of this: piss poor lather. Weak, wispy & short lived. I then relathered with Nancy Boy Blossomwood shave cream to "rescue" the shave. The latter of which a friend PIF'd me about half a travel container of and as of yet I have no real opinion. Regardless, it's far better than the Lebelle.

Nice stuff this Desmond's Barrow although I'm not getting the rich and thick lather others are. Still good though.

RazoRock 400 Plissoft Noir
Truefitt & Hill No10 cream
Boots No7 moisturiser
Ard Al Zaafaran Oud 24 Hours

A nice close three pass shave without any dramas.
I really like the scent of the No10, I should use it more often but I've lots of other creams so it is always in a queue.

This was my third use of the Plissoft Noir brush, and I'm not sure I'm bonding with it.
I can't seem to get it to whip up a lather in a bowl.
However, when rinsing out the brush with warm water after shaving tonight it was producing oodles of lather in my hand, after I had run it under the tap.
Do synthetic brushes need copious amounts of water to create a rich lather?

Pre Shave: Hot Shower, L'Oreal Pure Power Face Wash and Proraso White
Razor: GEM Micromatic OC
Blade: PAL Blue Carbon (#1)
Brush: Maseto 2 band finest 24mm
Soap: Czech and Speake Oxford & Cambridge
Post: Alum Block, Cold water and Humphrey's Witch Hazel
AS: Nivea 2 Phase balm

Echoes of @nolisco 's shave today and my last shave, the first pass certainly felt tuggy but nowhere near as much as yesterdays Feather Soft Guard in an iKon El Jefe. Second and third passes were much better and the last ATG pass was so smooth. However while 90% of my face was BBS there were a few patches that were not. I definitely need to try the Micromatic with a Stainless Steel blade next and try the Carbon blade in the 1912 I have.

Very impressed with the Czech and Speake soap, wonderful lather produced. I picked up the soap only at a good price off eBay, I would love to have the real aluminium tin but happy to make do with my £1.50 alternative. My Maseto brush has been losing 2 to 3 hairs each shave so far, it is still quite new but I hope it does not keep this up for too much longer.

Our shaves sounded similar with the Pal blade, I wonder if it the blade that is causing the tugginess? I'll likely use a Gem blade next time to compare them. Although it felt tuggy like yourself I more or less was BBS and not a nick or bit of irritation in sight.

A lovely looking shave, hope the brush stops shedding soon!

You need more water & work it into a lather.

Synthetic brushes don't hold water like animal brushes do. Whenever I've used a synthetic brush for bowl lathering, it's a case of create a soapy paste with a slightly damp brush, transfer paste to bowl all up sides and base, add water while scrubbing lightly at it with the brush. Keep adding water until you reach the desired lather! Hope this helps :)

RazoRock Plissoft 22mm
Tabac
ES Claymore V1
Schick Proline Type P [ 8 ]
Alum Rub/Rinse Off
Tabac A/S Lotion

On the Move a Bit. Having to use a Hire Car, as broke down on the M25 on Friday, and sick vehicle
is with the Dealership- probably repairs will cost the equivalent of 6 One-Blade Razors :(, knowing my luck.
On Saturday had a travel Shave with a trusty PAL Injecto-Matic, in hotel in Hampshire, back home
on Saturday night. Up early on Sunday morning as off to Kings Lynn, and had a relaxed Shave
with the Claymore V1. It combines so well with the Schick Blade , it is hard to believe it is on its 8th
outing. Now back home, but have to buy a Laptop for my son who is living in Jordan, and take it up to London, so his in-laws can take there later in the week. Cannot do otherwise, as I am off to Cheshire
on Tuesday morning, who said you can take it easy when you are retired ?

Pre....Shower - BBA Shave Oil
Razor....Supply SE #3 plate
Blade....Personna 74 DE blade #1
Soap....SV Dolomiti
Brush...Omega boar
Post....BBA post shave balm
EDC...Acqua Classica , Borsari

I've done this before but never with this blade, this has turned the mild mannered Supply SE into something that would give the R41 a run for its money, if you've ever thought I wished there was a more aggressive plate for this razor look no further.......two passes and out the door, smooth as can be, fantastic. shave balm applied followed with a good spray of Acqua Classica, smooth and smelling great.

Have a good day people.......:)

@captain_hx - interesting. If I'm on a multi-day walking or camping trip the Bic Metal is the razor I pack. Robust, very light and will give a good shave. Good luck with your search. Cheers - I

Thank you @Digimonkey
One more to try, the Bic 1 and I'm done. Will pick the best of the three to use as a carry on baggage razor.

Brush: Omega 50068 'Bambino'
Razor: Merkur 34C HD w/ Gillette Silver Blue (1)
Soap: Archaic Alchemy Eureka
Post: Boots Tea Tree Witch Hazel, Nivea 2 Phase & Crabtree and Evelyn Black Absinthe

I had been wanting to use my Merkur for a while, about time it came up in rotation. I have never got on with Silver Blues but and never understood the hype, they were ok. Biggest annoyance/issue is the bloody glue spots! First time ever I have noticed residue left on my razor from a glue bump. The soap was fantastic and the lather very good, despite their size these midget brushes certainly do their job. No sting from the post shave and I quite enjoy this Black Absinthe scent although it is strong and polarising.

As for Eureka, getting dressed I had an eureka moment so an apt soap. I was thinking about my childhood and remembered an educational rodent called El Nombre, he was a Mexican mathematical Zorro. Only now when I sat and thought I userstood his name, about 23 years too late... :D :D
