I managed to slice my face just under my cheekbone, and it was a tricky one to get stop bleeding. One of those days when I woke up on the wrong side of the bed and spent the best part of the day just doing stupid things.

Anyway, have a good day gents.

That a GC.68? Handle looks good too, which is it?

That head is one of the first batch of "mule", i.e., test, GC .68 razors, before the public release. I bought it from a forum mod. off another forum for circa $25 shipped a few years back.

The handle is from a PAA Prismatic which I sold sans the handle.

Despite yesterday's seemingly disappointing shaving experience I really can't argue with the finish, I could probably have skipped this mornings and only I would have noticed. Though being a creature of habit I just couldn't bring myself to miss it. So out came the mildish CG Level 2 to take down a minimal level of growth. Nice easy shave with a good finish, the B15 whipped up a cracking lather, though I'm getting to the awkward part with this jar where I'm going to have to scoop or use a smaller brush, no great hardship for such a brilliant soap.

So a good shave was had, hope everyone had a grand day!

Cheers

Razor: Aylsworth Drakkant, Open comb plate.
Blade: Astra SP, 2nd use
Brush: Knothead Brush Works 26mm AP Shave Co. Synbad
Bowl: 3D Printed Bowl
Preshave: PAA Cube Unscented Soap
Soap: Yaqi/MSC Issey Miyaki Puck
Aftershave: Issey Miyake L’Eau d’Issey EDT
Balm: L’Oréal All In 1 Moisturising Cream Balm
Additional Care: Osma Laboratoires Alum Block

It’s fair to say I love this razor but I was wary of the open comb plate, for no other reason than I rarely use them and generally in the past found them a little too much for my daily shaving needs. I needn’t had worried as it’s just as smooth the other plates, though I agree with previous views that the gaps are a little too large for me. My only issue is with it being an OC and a daily shaver I just don’t get the stubble growth to merit using it regularly. It’s that little more efficient but it’s wasted on my daily needs. I’m going to have another days play with it tomorrow but I will probably only need 2 passes as it’s a little step up in efficiency so I won’t need the full 3 passes.

Continuing a run through my ASR double edge razors ...

It occurred to me that these razors share a lot of common face feel with the Gillette Old Type, but which I mean I think the geometry is similar and the best technique is to find the angle from the cap and drive it that way.

This gold washed example has long since lost its wash (a common thing with these razors) and so presented as just lovely brass. It's a very nice example.

Not happy with my experiment tonight: Asco blade (first ever use) did not agree with me, so I swapped out for a familiar smoothness of a Personna blade. And I still managed to irritate my neck quite a bit, even a couple of weepers (which I have not had in a while). Ah well, focus and technique. I suppose it's a good thing that the whiskers grow back, plenty of opportunity to work on it - at least while I enjoy this hobby...

Just like the Star DE?

Yes. Same design under the Star, Treet, Personna & PAL brands with some PAL variants on aluminium baseplates and handles. I've seen Personna brand as US-made but not PAL. I've not seen Star or Treet as British made. The Star is slated for tomorrow. One that I have (and a Treet) come on hexagonal handles like the 1912s, just that the stem is a little longer.
