ABove The Tie Gem G1.

Nope. On the first pass wtg I could feel more cutting but not enough, re lathered, 2nd pass wtg, again not enough, another razor would usually have done the hard work by now.
Re lathered for against the grain, this should be down to the wood on this, a couple of strokes and again the razor was down.

Quickly loaded my Gillette Slim to finish, even the Nannys Moroccan Sands could not save this shave, one of my worst in a long time.
Its a thing of beauty to look at but unfortunately I will have to email Stan for a return.
To be honest Chris , I sent mine back already without trying the old or new baseplate , I am down the £45 odd charges and return postage of £12 odd but I could not get the Sabre to shave for me so held little hope of the ATT shaving , the Rocnel is my last shot at a modern Gem razor .

Been looking at the Rocnel but its an ugly industrial looking piece, reviews seem hit & miss, think I will pass, might have to try vintage until the next new razor breaks cover. That or the ATT aluminium SE1, looks nice but once bitten twice..

Just boxed up the G1, postage tomorrow.

I've never tried the ATT, but I have both the SE-G and the Sabre with both plates.
To give you an idea of how efficient I like my shave, I use the FB on 8 with a feather and this is just fine.
The SE-G is more aggressive than I like and I use extreme caution when shaving with it. It gives me BBS though in 2 & corrections. The Sabre @L2 is perfection AFAS efficiency is comcerned and also a smooth razor. If you like the ER 1912 you will love the Sabre. It's as efficient, only smoother and not as vocal.
Elaborating, in the beginning, I was torn between the ATT and the Sabre, but a point that made me lean towards the Sabre is the little retaining screw of the ATT that is begging to be dropped down the S bend. Initial reviews proclaimed both on the mild side, but as I was going to get one anyway, with the revised L2's on the drawing board for both razors, I went for the Sabre on account of its simpler construction. It seems I have made the right decision for myself and, because the L2 of the Sabre seems to be more fitting to my needs than the ATT @L2. YMMV of-course.

I have recently purchased ATT SE G1 from a fellow Shaver. It is nicely finished , but as a person with a heavy strong beard I find it too mild, and cannot get a really close Shave with it.

I have shown paperwork and photo to Stan at ATT who has verified that is V2. and they have no plans to make a more aggressive plate. He did suggest use of a Shim. As I was having a poor sleep I have been playing around with 1/2 spine shims, Injector blades under the blade, which alters aggression. Now have to get best thickness/ fit of Shim to try the theory out. Guess one of the penalties of having a tough beard .

Probably delivers great Shaves for those with different type of beard to mine. I struggled with the Sabre V1, and the Supply SE is not too good for me. ER Streamline/PAL Injector Matic no problems.

Further to my earlier post of this Morning, I have had a further Shave with the ATT SE G1 this time with a shim as suggested by Stan at ATT

May not be the final one, but poetically this one made from plastic from box containing 100 Personna / Gem blades. Pleased to say the Razor still smooth with more blade feel, a very nice smooth finish on Cheek ,Lip, Chin and not bad on difficult areas of the neck. My problem with this nicely engineered Razor seem to have been resolved, by a simple solution that I now remember experienced DE Shavers use to perk up milder razors.

I'm pleased you have managed to resolve this issue with the razor and your extra tough beard Mike, it's a shame that it wasn't up to the cutting capacity as your Streamline though! (before the shimming)
