A cold water shave today, boiler on the blink so no alternative. Much prefer hot water but nice for a change. Soap worked well today, the brush can lather anything. You can really see and feel the quality. Good shave and hopefully a hot water shave tomorrow! Brr!​

Only us wet shaver aficionados appreciate it, but sometimes you can have a shave that makes you glad to be alive.
I had one tonight.

After several shaves with the very aggressive ATT H2, I dialed it all the way back to the super-mild Wilkinson Sword Sticky. However, paired with a very sharp blade (cue a vintage Super Sword), and you still have a very efficient weapon. The Sticky is just so easy to use - you can glide it around with relative freedom, and if it were not for audio feedback, you'd wonder if you've forgotten to load a blade. Three very comfortable passes, and a decent clean-up thanks to the mildness of the razor and the residual slickness of the soap, and I was BBS.

But the star of the show was the soap. Australian Private Reserve have just released three winter soaps and aftershaves, and I've just snared a couple. I have always rated APR soaps as top shelf, and this was no exception. Great cushion, glide, and residual slickness. And the scent- WOW! The Artisan described it during early formulation as "A beautiful, dirty, deep winter Fougère accented by the smoky Réunion island Bourbon Rose." That just about nails it. I could wax lyrical about the complexity of this scent, but rather than bore you with technicalities, I'll simply state that this is the soap and aftershave that Tony Soprano would use before heading out in a tux to the annual Goodfellas Ball.

From past, to present, to Futur.

Started the shave off in the smoky, leather cockpit. The scent of gin rang through the air with accompanying gunfire, bringing tarte notes to the nose.
The modern Maseto made short work of whipping up the lather. Much slip, much cushion. Nothing more to say.
The slick, hefty Futur was primed to stun, not kill. Setting #5 with a Derby Extra on it's first outing made short work of stubble in one pass with touch ups. Oodles of blade feel, just how I like it. No irritation, no nicks, no weepers. Beam me up, Scotty.
Back to reality - back to the present. Extro Bay Rum gave me a lovely dose of post-shave smoothness, softness and some tingle. A liberal application one wanted, so a liberal application one had. Tea tree to spicy clove and bay, some citrus and nostalgic tarte notes to remind me of the lather of yesteryear.

All up a great touch-up this morning. 90% smooth, but looking clean. Usual problem areas but shaving two consecutive days meant I didn't fancy pushing it. Hope your hump-day shaves go good, folks.

Produced a truly wonderful lather today with the Nivea Shave Cream and I was somewhat perplexed to why I rarely ever use shaving creams, maybe as I quite the load up stage with a hard soap.

Pretty underwhelming shave though no nicks but not the closest, not sure if it was down to bad technique or if I was directed by reading about the death of Chris Cornell (I was a teenage grunger)

Arrr Sh*t - Chris Cornell gone :( A fantastic talent. Never forget the Temple of the Dog song "Hunger Strike", where he did a duet with Eddie Vedder.

Not a good shave, the culprit being the proline blade, this was my third shave with this blade.The first shave was good but was left with some redness/burn on my neck the second and today's shave wasn't good, with the alum block needed to stem the flow of blood from a few nicks and weepers around the mouth and neck area + my neck now has razor rash ( not a good look )
I braved the aftershave, BLOODY HELL!!!:eek:
Maybe I was unlucky in that the first blade out the box wasn't fit for purpose.
I won't make a RASH decision and give up on them just yet.:D

@patw - I've noticed chat here recently about full-on coniferous scents. I'd like to recommend NSS Scotch Pine. I'm not sure if Sharon still uses the scent, my jar is a few re-formulations and packaging changes ago. Vegetarian. Very good. Very piney indeed. Back to the front of the rotation - thanks for reminding me about it. I.

AS: Lucky Tiger Face Tonic and AS.

Nice smooth shave from the Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Platinum but not all that close, I find some blades just don't work their best in the iKon 101, but then some work great, well for me at least. I will be trying the blade in the iKon X3 next so will see how that goes.

I received a very welcome sample of Stirling Coniferous today from @patw and wow what a scent, it was as if I had just taken my chainsaw to a huge pine and was covered in sawdust and resin, pine needles the lot. I've not tried any other coniferous scented soap so can not make comment about any others but this one is fabulous .imo YMMV! :)
