S.O.T.D Saturday 21th October - Friday 27th October 2017

My point was, the 1912 remains a standard bearer for Gem bladed razors after all these years.
And the short comings of the ATT and Rocnel show how difficult it is to get it right. I'm sure if both companies continue to make this style of razor they will get it right.
I didn't mention the Blackland Sabre because, from what I gather they've made a good fist of it.
I'll hopefully be finding this out for myself in the near future. :)

I agree that the 1912 has set the vey high benchmark for a long, long time. I'm sorry that I did not pick up on your point, I hope you did not find my post as critical or argumentative.

I am surprised that the ATT GEM, thus far, has appeared to bomb.

Interesting to see that Blackland are about to launch an updated head for the Sabre, which is more efficient/aggressive - always room for improvement. I wonder if we will ever see a perfect razor, in terms of materials, function, design and looks?

Monday's shave :)

Pre-shave - Warm shower, Wright's Cold Tar Soap face wash, followed by Proraso Pre-Shave Cream (Green).
Razor - Rocnel-SE GEM.
Blade - PTFE GEM (Day 3).
Soap - Proraso Eucalyptus and Menthol Shaving Soap (Green).
Bowl - Little Wren.
Brush - Simpsons Chubby 2 Synthetic Badger.
Post shave - Proraso (Green) After Shave, followed by Proraso Eucalyptus Aftershave Balm.

About an hour after yesterday's shave, some of the skin on my neck broke out/rash. Today went for a 1 pass WTG with the Rocnel, no issues thus far. Very close to a BBS finish on the face with a DFS on the neck.

Decided to use Proraso Green - no issues or sting with the splash after the shave. Perhaps the Myrsol 'Metisol' splash is a little strong for my skin, after a shave with the Rocnel/GEM?

Skin feels great - relaxed and smooth.

All the best,

Chris

No problem, I probably hadn't explained myself very well.
ATT have also made another base plate, I don't know how successful this has been.
I don't think there will ever be a perfect razor as we all have different requirements, but it's fun searching :)

Hot Towel, Phoenix & Beau Obsidian, Cadman 26mm Silvertip, Merkur Futur, Astra SS (1), Cold Rinse, Paul Smith London.

Today is my 'promotion' SOTD. I start my new role today (was team senior, now manager) and I the shave was an immediate 'this is what I'll use'. Something powerful, special and worthy of a great day such as this. My face feels superb, and the scents are stunning.

Congratulations Nick!

Pre - shower + homemade shaving oil

Brush - Semogue owners club Boar

Soap - Mitchell's Wool Fat

Razor - Hoffritz slant

Blade - Gillette Silver Blue

Post - Nivea balm

Not a bad shave. MWF provided a brilliant lather as usual. The Hoffritz slant just isn't for me I think.
I get smoother shaves from my straights.
I think I will sell or trade it at some stage. Pity because it comes with the full blue lined silver box and blade containers.

Beautiful razor Dick.

Greetings
Thank you Arthur. It is certainly not in my top ten favourites; whilst it gives a fantastically close shave it is hugely aggressive, by far the most aggressive razor I own and as such requires a super light touch or I end up with a sore face. It has a really big blade gap and the blade protrudes right to the end of the comb, that combination coupled with it's very heavy weight and you have all the ingredients for a very fierce razor. It has a superb chromed finish and it's built like a tank weighing in at 103 grams

Regards
Dick

I agree, also not sure I would want to find a perfect razor, like you its fun searching and trying new things out.

All the best,

Chris
