Anybody play table tennis - no seriously.

I need a new bat - sheesh it's more complicated than choosing the right razor, blade, brush, soap combo.

Average player with a hopelessly ambitious attacking style, okay maybe you can leave out the style and possibly attacking.

One of these... then you can whang your opponent if he/she gets on your tits too.

I speak from the dizzy heights of finishing with a 66% win average in Bournemouth Division 3 for New Milton Table Tennis Club last year. Well unfortunately, due to a foot injury I did only play one match. My average was only 33% during the previous few seasons. Playing regularly against very fit teens and twenties was a reminder of advancing years so I have finally retired. I have my own table and robot so I'm still at it and have friends round for "last of the summer wine" sessions. We were all better at golf, but we have a go at anything.

Now Tony, what sort of bat are you after?

All you really need to know is here:

Or nip into John Lewis for a standard cheapie.

I've done cheapie Fido, I'm ready to move to the next level.

I'm looking for a very decent intermediate bat. ~ £25 to £40

Not silly stiff as I like using spin and placement.

Had to pull out my old bat, a Mark 5 by Stiga on allround wood. Designed by Kjell Johansson, WC. Good for both defense and attack (hopelessly or not  ). I´m _not_ an expert and I never played any tournameants, but for me this bat´s one nice piece. I had an impossible style though, that could drive better players to madness

In that case, this should be a serious contender within your price range. Next stop it's around £70 for more specific attributes through a mix of the blade and rubbers. I always rang them for a chat about my current playing strategy. Not that it did me much good. It's what you do with the thing that counts!

WTF, my bat and rubber is much better than that Ebay bat ... Hmm, trade anyone  Seriously though, Peters suggestion is good, the Samsonov seems nice. Rubber gets old and stiffens/looses it´s grip/softness.

Very occasional player myself, usually mealbreak at work. My mate brought his deceased dad's bat in, it was phenomenal. I had never played so well, he was obviously sentimentally attached to it, still in original case / box. So was I when he told me it was bought in 1962. My birthbat.
