OK, now being back from Morocco I can tell that the Omega boar brush with Arko soap, Gillette Slim Twist with a SuperMax blade was a wise choice Arko has not failed me, it lathered up like crazy.

I'm presuming that something about the water/soap combination may have been the problem as the water was the only variable so any suggestions for a reliable soap and cream for travel or any other tips?

Did'n t go to a barbers shop for a shave then?

When I go to Turkey or any country with a similar culture I leave the razor at home and go to the Barber shops just to see what the pros do on a day in day out basis I often learn something from them and its cheap.
