Brush killing lather ?

My new simpsons colonel best badger hasn't been performing well for me.
I lather up with soap or cream and it's all fine.
Then go to lather for second pass and the lather has disappeared.
What's the deal? Any thoughts or recommendations?

Are you bowl or face lathering?

How long are you soaking the brush for before using?

If you squeeze the base of the knot is there any lather being push out of the top of the brush?

1) bowl and face lathering

2) leave to soak for at least five minutes in warm water

3) only a small amount of lather left in the brush

After the first time the lather died in the brush I consciously loaded the brush for longer with plenty of soap. Still the same result.
