I must admit I have no idea what that key was for on a typewriter, I'm sure I'm not alone! P.The purpose of the @ key on a typewriter.
You never stop learning! P.It was generally used for bills/receipts, to indicate the cost of a single item, where several have been supplied. e.g.
4 lightbulbs @ 56p......£2.24
It literally meant 'at a cost of'.
"BLACKMASS TO RECEPTION, PLEASE,....CUSTOMER WAITING!".......Why capital letters are referred to as 'upper case', and non-capitals as 'lower case'.
Afternoon to any printers out there!

I don't know what the @ sign would be needed for in Dutch.

Actually no, not on a real typewriter keyboard. We did have the § and ƒ Keys though.Does the @ key appear on a Dutch typewriter?
