Dumb question? Gillette model numbers?

I keep reading of razors referred to as #21 or #15, I think they're different types of Aristocrat but what do the numbers mean? Are they stamped on the razor somewhere?

Sometimes on the Box or the Card Insert (If you get them) you might see a Gillette Model Number, nothing is stamped on the Razors though, but for Reference just look at Achim (Mr Razors) Site:

http://www.mr-razor.com/Rasierer/One-Piece open comb/open comb.htm

http://www.mr-razor.com/Rasierer/One-Piece solid guard bar/solid guard bar.htm

http://www.mr-razor.com/Rasierer/Adjustable/Adjustable.htm

Thanks for that but how would you tell them apart if you don't get the box/card? I can see some differences mainly in the knurled handles but different numbers look identical to me like 1938 #46 and #47 (aside from the colour - or is that the difference?) and 1930's #15 and #20.

it can be tricky, some sets had the Same Razor just released at a different time in a different Box, (That's Gillette Marketing for you)

Some have small differences that you may not notice when quickly looking at Photos.

Are you looking to start collecting ?

if you are not sure what Razor you have or what you are looking at just post a Pic of it on here, there are many guys on here with plenty of knowledge to help you.....

Thanks for the help, I'm not collecting seriously but I do keep my eye open at antique markets etc and I'm trying to learn a bit! :D

Achim's site is a 'must view'! There's also an excellent post on Badger and Blade about Gillette Rockets. If you Google 'Gillette Rocket' it's about the second or third hit.
