Good luck with the straight razor, but before you go down that route you might want to consider (as others have suggested) a different blade/razor combination. The Japanese "Feather" blades have a reputation for extreme sharpness, and might give your shave that little bit extra - possibly in a razor which exposes a little more blade (perhaps an open-comb model). You'll find plenty of ideas and suggestions on here, that's for sure.
