Hello and welcome Mand.
The 38c is a big heavy razor and as already suggested, dont apply pressure with this one, just let the weight of razor do the work.
I find personnas and 7o'clock yellows are good with the 38C but each to his own.
You might want to try Body Shop Macca root cream, its inexpensive but a great performer.
Also, palmolive cream for me is better than the stick.

I did all of that for a year, went through Pauls largest sampler, found the blades that worked best for me and my razor and technique.

Then I tried other razors and have actually found a combination that far exceeds only working on technique and finding the right blade.

So what I am saying is: don't spend a full year like I did on technique and blades alone, if you don't get exceptional irritation free shaves. The razor might just be very important in the equation! And if you buy one that is wrong for you, this community will almost always have the love for your left over razors ;)
