I have recently acquired a couple of horn handled brushes. Do the handles themselves require any special care or maintenance? I've heard of cracking etc and always thought this would just be a result of dropping them. Any advice would be appreciated as these brushes not only represent a weighty monetary investment, but I like them very much and want to use them but also keep them looking at their best!

If it is horn then an occasional wipe with a light oil such as shaving oil or mineral oil and a buff avery so often should be fine. (I assume its been turned to a smooth finish with no open runs or checks?)
Dry it after use and dont allow water to run inside where the knot is and it'll probably outlast you
