How long to soak?

I have read on another forum that you shouldn't exceed temps of 104 degrees. I am no expert on this by any means but I heard that temps hotter than 104 may break off the tips of the badger hair and that its also not good for the badger knot itself.
 
I now have a mental picture of somebody with sets of temperature-controlled water baths soaking sets of ten badger brushes, repeating with brand-new brushes at one degree increments, and examining them under microscopes after each trial. 104? Maybe it's really 105, or 103!

Hint: this did not happen.
