I Have An Itch For A Slant

Cant believe (being a loyal straight shaver) that since having a go with a Dodgy's pass around slant I have the urge to buy one. Wether I actualy use it as I will never turn away from my beloved straights...

Anyway, having never bought a DE in my life I need some buying advise.

Whats the best slant to get, new or vintage, Merkur (37c) or other?
Where to buy?

Budget is upto £100

My daily go to (for the last couple of months) has been a 1940's hoffritz. Lovely bit of kit.

go from £30 > £150 for a mint one.

There are a few to look out for, Merkur (new and vintage), Hoffritz, Pomco, Ibsen all should be well in your price range unless you are looking for a collectable one. Also there a Fasan slants but these tend to fetch a fair price and are a bit (?) bit agressive as they are a double slant i.e. bit more twisted.......)))

I have used a Merkur 39 c for a fair time and it gives me a consistant shave
every time, but it does like a sharp blade. The main problem you might have
is actually finding sombody with any stock.I have been trying to get the
smaller 37c for a while but stock seems to go fast.
Seems there are a lot of slant users out there.

Love the look of that Hoffritz though.

Probably a used Merkur may be best, if you can get one. The Hoffritz , made by Merkur in any event, can tend to be pricey when they come up because of the James Bond connection despite Mr. Fleming using an OC. I only suggest a used Merkur as there have been adverse comments over the last couple of years about some quality control issues with new models.

Thanks for all your replies fellas, that Hoff is nice and I would prefer something vintage.

If any of you spot something decent on eBay drop me a PM please as I wouldn't know what I am looking for.

Missingskin, I will do a bit of research on the others you have suggested.

Cheers:)

The Hoffritz slants are nice but they're basically an older 37C (other than the name and the finish they're the same razor) and yet they command a very high price, this one is £50 and it has a while to run, AND it doesn't even have a case! It'll probably fetch £70-80 at close of play. A minty one in a nice box can set you back well in excess of £100 unless you're lucky.

Good luck finding a good one. Like a couple of the guys here I'd normally just say get a 37 or a 39 sledgehammer and have that itch scratched quick style, but as you rightly say they're hard to find at the moment.

I did like dodgy's slant (so much I bought a 37c) and to be honest theres so little difference in looks, and I think my 37c is smoother.

Id be inclined to save the money, but that's just my tight fist.

Bought my 37c from Connaught Shaving, I see they are out of stock. Don't know what slant Dodgy is passing around, but if you haven't tried the 37c, retail price approx £30, send me your address and you can borrow mine, see if you like it.

Regards
Kevin

PS
Everyone seems to be out of stock of 37c at the moment.

You can get a 39C for £39.99 from manmachine.co who just introduced himself in the welcome forum, here. Though he doesn't seem to have the 37C in stock.

Just had a guy who bought a 39C who was told that the slantbars where being discontinued.

I have just contacted the distributors to confirm that they are not being discontinued but they are in very short supply with very long lead times, some of the Merkur's have 3-5 month leads times these include the slant bars, Vision, Futurs.

So while they are still coming through we are heading to the busiest time of the years with Xmas looming and we just getting them in dribs and drabs which is why some models are so thin on the ground.

Tell me Paul, why is my corporate network blocking your website with a warning of 'adult content'? :D

I wish, apart form the razor porn (ohh look at the comb on that ! - R41) and video's of your truly reviewing products there is nothing that intersting :icon_cry2:

Our store is hosted by Big commerce, one of the biggest web-store hosting companies and they don't have porno sites in there system, so all I can think of is that someone has been a bit over zealous with the firewall IP range blocking or it thinks your not allowed to look at sharp things in-case you cut yourself :icon_lol:

Try again from home
