Hiya,

Here's a biography flick called "Ip Man" that's based on the life of a famous king fu master. Takes place back in the 1930s and is set in China.

Some pretty amazing fight scenes by Donnie Yen and some others. Interesting story and well photographed. Quality of this sorta film mighta started with Crouching Tiger-Hidden Dragon from years ago.

Did I mention those fights in this movie? http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/ip_man/

Good choice I think there is a second film as well.

I watched the second one as well, but preferred the first one myself. Heh, I think the sequel got better reviews though.

These kinda movies might appeal to people looking for a good action adventure with some redeeming social value. Plus, that guy Donnie Yen is pretty amazing.

I really enjoyed the first film (it's regularly on Film4 in the UK) and have the second recorded, ready for future viewing. One of those historical dramatisations that successfully mixes fantasy and fact.

Must watch them as a double bill the next time SWMBO is out with the girls.

Both films are great but, for me, the first is the best of the two.

Sammo Hung is excellent in the second film though.

+1 for Ong Bak as well - there's some great acton in that flm, all the more impressive given that there is no wire-work involved.

If you ever get a chance to check out Shaolin Soccer it's a must. Starring Stephen Chow (Kung Fu Hustle) it mixes football and kung fu together in one of the bizarrest films I've ever seen.

Thanks to you and the other posters for the extra info to check out. I actually have a copy of King Fu Hustle, which is a pretty cute movie.

The other Chinese kinda movie I could suggest to most people is "Hero", starring Jet Li. Reminds me of Crouching Tiger, which isn't a bad thing. Something that might even be considered a family type movie. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/hero/

I believe there are four Ip Man movies - 1, 2, I think 3 and A legend is Born. Crits say 1 and 2 are the best and 1 the better of the two. So I'm now down £15 for bluray 1 and 2 - I'd never heard of them till this morning but the trailer for Ip Man looks VG.

Thanks for the heads up, oh great enabler!

Excellent (said in my best Monty Burns voice),

I believe you'll enjoy those flicks Carl. Some Chinese movies can really be well done, although they don't usually get the press like other films do. These would be good ones to watch with your 15 year old grandkid.....seriously.

Since I know you're a big fan of shipping charges savings, you might like to include a copy of the Jet Li movie I mentioned earlier. It would probably ship for free with the other stuff!! Really well done and beautiful movie.
