I have recently purchased a jar of the scented variety and according to Mdc you are supposed to leave the lid off unless you are transporting it somewhere,so my question is,would doing this affect the scent?will it not fade after time?.

I had the wooden bowl version, which doesn't come with a lid. I left it open on my bathroom shelf for the time it took to use it up, maybe a year or so. Never lost its scent. In fact, it remained quite strong.

i use it, keep it open, come home from work and put the lid back on it.

I have one of the glass bowl version (no lid even supplied) it doesn't seem to of lost any scent.

Same here. I transferred mine into a stoneware bowl (with no lid).
After 8 months use - no problems in scent loss or performance. Still going strong.

Lid off for nearly two years fella and very little change to the scent here.
