I bought a Merkur 33C handle from Daz a couple of months ago to use with the heads from two British Gillette News, a Regent set and a open ball handled set. I've been using the OBH head and the 33C handle since then.
Yesterday I tried it out with the Regent head for the first time and was quite startled by the difference. A much smoother and gentler shave. To me it seemed like (at least) the angle was different, I had some trouble keeping close around my chin and jaw. In the places I got it right the shave was as close as you like and I only knew it was cutting by the sound.
I was a little surprised as they are both British made from the same era and both using a long modern handle. Just me? or are the New sets not just cosmetically different but the same head?
