New Silver tip badger brush

I would rather get a small cereal bowl or large coffee cup from dunelm or poundland and put the money towards a quality soap e.g. nanny's, wickhams, p&b or osp.

These UK artisan soaps are truly world class, a bowl is just a bowl.

Not all bowls are created equal. My Steve Woodhead pedestal bowl is a work of art. Easy to hold, functional with ridges to help lathering. Soaps come and go or are used in rotation; I use a bowl everyday so I reckon it's worth getting one you like.
I've tried face-lathering but for me a bowl gives more consistent results and the lather is easier to control.

You spent more on your bowl than your brush! That would be where you made your mistake. The loft looks a bit high on the brush so that may be why its dumping the lather out on the first pass. For a budget badger you should have a look at whipped dog in the USA or Frank shaving on ebay.
