If monetary constraints are, shall we say, relaxed, then these bad boys are presently on Massdrop for 800 bucks. Unfortunately, it's US domestic shipping only - but if you've a friend in the States...

Drool! but I'd have to take my hearing aids out - rather reducing their performance!

Except for the cumbersome, great big, fat - but soft and flexible - cable, I'm already a great fan of these Grados. Definitely for when you are alone but no way would they disturb neighbours. Great sound without Bose's bass. Comfortable. Work with my hearing aids so I get all the sound. Do they look retro? Can't see 'em when I'm listening. I'd say functional look, which suits me fine.
