If you want one my best advice would be to get a second hand one, then if you don't get on you can sell it for the same money and you haven't lost anything.

Just cut and pasted my answer to your poll on the same subject:
"Unfortunately, I don't think you'll ever know until you've tried one. If you could borrow one for a while that would be the best solution... otherwise you'll have to dive in. I'm betting you'll get a lot of opinions on both sides and a lot recommendations for other razors... like Ikons and...erm... Webers
I've thought of getting one myself... I know these things can eat away you until you get the plastic out. In my case I got the rather excellent aforementioned Weber razor and I'm happy with that (that's a bit of an understatement) "
